The only 40 times that anyone should take seriously are at the combine. Keep in mind that a lot of the guys have done nothing but train for the 40 for the previous 2-3 months, and the only position where the majority of the top prospects run faster than a 4.50 is cornerback.

That shows how even the supposedly accurate times at high school camps are complete BS, unless all the Rivals 250 guys go from a 4.4 in high school with little preparation to a 4.55 at the NFL combine after months of dedication

How fast did Dominique-Chromartie(spelling?) run the 40, wasn't it the fastest ever recorded at the combine? Like a 4.26 or something?

Thought it was Chris Johnson of ECU and Titans with a 4.26.

Apparently, Rodgers-Cromartie ran a 4.28 last year. Off the top of my head, the fastest guys at the combine were Donte Stallworth (4.26), Chris Johnson (4.25), Yamon Figurs (4.29), Chris Houston (4.32), and Joey Galloway ran a sub 4.3 as well.

I don't think Drayton Calhoun or Kenny Bell are anywhere near those guys

I'm posting just to set the record straight and no, I'm not Orrin Fontenot, I'm his dad. If you look back on DD's interview with Orrin, you'll see that he had the correct stats on Orrin, 6'2, 230 lbs and 4.68 sec 40yd dash. He ran 4.68 hand timed on the track at NUC combine last year and ran 4.71 hand timed at LSU football camp last summer at the indoor practice field. Someone later in the thread wrote that Orrin ran a 4.66 at the Army Combine which is a mistake because he was did not attend the Army combine but I do appreciate him taking up for my son. The stats that I listed are the facts for what they are worth. I don't know why DD's numbers changed from the interviews to the listings that he had. I agree that alot of stats you see on kids are hyped and that DD's numbers are confusing but for "peopleschamp" to pick out an individual (Orrin) and say that he is another example of hyped 40 times and insinuate that my son lied about his 40 time is irresponsible and pretty cheap on his part. He made an assumption about my son and used his name without checking the facts for himself. If you want to make the blanket statement that alot of stats and times are hyped, I'm all for it and would agree with you but don't grab one particular persons name and stats and say that they lied with out checking first! Maybe "peopleschoice" should do some facting finding of his own before he criticizes a kid who didn't do anything wrong!

Good luck to your son and I hope he likes LSU.

I do understand Cadello but I couldn't let it go without setting the record straight and standing up for my son. I might have been a little PO'd when I wrote that last reply and I want to post all the facts so somebody doesn't come back and accuse me of hiding things. Orrin ran 4.68 at NUC in Dutchtown last Feb. & 4.81 at NUC in Atlanta last June, both hand timed. Those are the only actual times that I have first hand knowledge of. I see your from Eunice Cadello, you and I have probably tread alot of the same ground, I grew up in Ville Platte. Spent alot of Thursday nights in Eunice at the Purple Peacock! LOL!

Anyways, 40 times are incredibly overrated for LBs, unless you run a 5.0 flat like Highsmith.

yeah he was barely able to make it at LSU

Whatever his time, which is the biggest bs factor for a linebacker ever, congratulations.

Last I checked LB's were supposed to tackle the guy with the ball not run 40 yard dashes. His 10 yard dash would probably be a better time. (BTW we did that at my high school. Two linemen were in the top five. Both all district .)

I know he is a good player because he is on the "list" I know he is well coached because he is at Parkview. I know he has good character or Coach Mayet would have run him off.

So please ignore the rantards on here who especially during the offseason began to act like complete nuts.

I do hope you get to see you son running on to the field one day at tiger stadium in a big game. (whether it takes him 4.3 4.7 or 4.67 sec to reach the Tiger's eye.)

I avoid it.......

FWIW I picked your son as one of the 10 Louisiana recruits I think LSU gets.

I can see by your following this board you are a Tiger fan.

Dont let the jackasses of this site discourage you in any way.
They are just losers with nothing better to do than run down LSU's staff, players, recruits, future recruits and fans.
The majority of the people here are decent people that love LSU with a passion.

Tell Orrin we are pulling for him and good luck this year.

Best advice. I would even try to avoid this site all together if possible. Good luck to your son.

this whole argument is crazy. The 40 is a outdated and totally useless way of measuring the speed of a football player. How many times during a game does a player run 40 yards on a play in a straight line?

Purple Peacock. I spent many nights at that place, driving over from Jennings with my buddies.

Unless FAT timing is used, you can take any 40 time with a grain of salt. The combine geeks boast about electronic timing but the clock is still hand started. This can have a pretty dramatic effect on time (as much as .45-.5 sec)

Thanks for the good wishes guys. Orrin works hard, is focused and driven, how ever fast or slow he may be. If the door at LSU doesn't open for some reason then another one will and some coach will be damn glad and damn lucky to have him. But that's just my opinion, I might be a little biased! LOL

40 times are more important for white athletes since they are perceived as slow.
