Another Decommitment Milestone

When Newman wide receiver A.J. Johnson withdrew his commitment to be a member of LSU's 2022 football class, he became the eighth player to do so this year and the 60th player to decommit from Ed Orgeron's six recruiting classes. This is among the nation's worst records for keeping "committed" players on board. By comparison, Clemson has had three decommits in the same timeframe. I understand Clemson Coach Dabo Sweeny insists all commited players promise to take no visits to other schools and end the recruitment process. Coach Orgeron should consider doing the same.

Thanks. We’ll take it in to consideration.

I'd suggest that keeping quality players on your roster might be beneficial.

No he shouldn’t. Alabama Georgia Ohio State and Oklahoma haven’t done it either why should we? Each one of those schools I mentioned still recruit at a high level just like LSU and it hasn’t hurt them. How many of those decommits were guys we told to look elsewhere or had academic issues or sometimes legal trouble? You also have to take in the fact that these are 17-18 year old kids making the biggest decision of their life. Recruiting isn’t always gonna be smooth sailing.

OP are you aware of the extenuating circumstances revolving around this situation? A decommit and a pulled scholarship offer are not the same thing.

I don’t care if he has 200 players back out. Keep pulling top 5 recruiting classes and the other bs doesn’t matter to me.

How many of those 60 players ended up being quality college players? And were the players LSU replaced them with quality players as well?

Clemson has been in the playoffs for six straight years with two championships. I suspect that would not be the case if the program had lose 60 players to decommitments.

Clemson is in one the weakest conference in Football. If you don’t think LSU would be in the playoffs every year in that conference your kidding yourself buddy. Smh
Plus we have to recruit against Bama Texas A&M Florida Georgia in the same conference. Who does Clemson have to recruit against in that conference?? Kids go their cuz they know they don’t play anyone until they get to the playoffs. SEC athletes are built different. Check the past couple years

This. What percentage of these decommits ended up being productive college players? Do you even know or are you just assuming because a kid decommitted from LSU, he went on to be a superstar somewhere else?

I'm not the biggest fan of Coach O, but this is a stupid arse criticism.

It's Not a silly stat to keep track of, We need to do much better than that.
It's about Stability and Strength of a Program!
Coach Orgeron needs to curve this trend in his program.
