My opinion is that once a college player is paid for his likeness, he is no longer an amateur and can pay his own way to school.

Its his body and his decision. Im sure he spoke with Texas about it before making the decision.

Let people do whatever the hell they feel is necessary for their future.

LSU and other schools pull scholarships, pull "committable offers" aka "processed" every damn cycle to healthy/hard-working kids and nobody bats an eye about it... why? Because schools are doing whats best for them by going after other players they need/want. Same shite applies...

Good point. But maybe have a threshold of the max you can make and then pay your own way.

He hasn’t secured anything yet

From the perspective of Texas, this just increases the chances he will get to campus healthy. They’re probably ok with it on some level.

The kid has no idea he's wasting the best times of his life. Not to mention that NFL does deep research on what makes up each player and who they are, this screams red flag.

Well at least Sark and Texas can’t act surprised when this kid does the same thing to them after one season.

The reduction of character in this country is deplorable!

And it is starting at a really young age now. Not just sports, in all categories. Kids are panzies these days!

Sure they want him to come in healthy, but sitting out a year in high school only hinders his development as a player. Texas would like to continue to evaluate him before he gets to campus. If he's concerned about getting hurt, he should give up the game now, especially as a RB. This is a huge indicator of the lack of competitive spirit this kid possesses.

When i was 17 years old I would be absolutely destroyed with sadness if there was a reason I couldnt be on the field with my brothers. I injured my ankle senior and had to miss the last couple games and I had such a sour feeling in my stomach not being able to be out there. The mindset of these kids nowadays is so different.

Players play, period. This clown might be great...but he's not a player, he can't be trusted.

100% will.leave after his 1st year sitting

The article said that texas new about it and supported him. Also, the main reason he isn’t playing is because he’s almost doubling his course load so that he can be eligible to early enroll at Texas in January. I get we want to see the kids play it through but academics are more than valid

As a CFB coach that would be the concern, not any character (especially if it is for academics).

The jump for ANY high school to any P5 team is huge (especially QBs and linemen). Development is non-stop and required. Coaches are now putting in a lot of man hours trying to get their coaching translated to [firm/locked] commits their senior year because the need for development before they even hit the field house has grown.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of it at all. But of all the things that are on the list of real issues from something like this and the list of annoyances, the interruption or pause in development is a real one.

Now the workaround is actually rooted in above. If the UT coaches can find a way to get THEIR drills and S&C to him (and monitored) then his development might actually be accelerated. The biggest issue with development as they transition to P5 is the lack of technical coaching at the high school level that preps them for this level. So if subtract minimal coaching and add something better... it just might be a positive, not a negative.
