Justin Loer will very likely be a weekend guy.
Not saying he won’t, but how is a guy that only had 3 starts and 25 IP at Xavier very likely to be a weekend starter at LSU?
Edit: those were freshman stats. As a sophomore, he got ONE start but threw 50+ innings. Certainly a bullpen arm, right?

Yep. Knew I was forgetting someone.

Gage Jump will be in the mix.

Ehhh maybe. I wouldn't say very likely.
Very likely will be Hurd/Holman(if he comes obviously) as the Friday/Saturday depending who shows the more consistency during the fall and spring scrimmages. After that you have a long list of guys who can take the Sunday start.
Ackenhousen
Loer
Jump
Herring
Jake Brown
Cameron Johnson
I think it is likely to see one of the freshman start the season as a midweek starter. I like Jump taking the Sunday spot if he is anything close to what he started to show at UCLA before the injury.

Call me Tips, but this pitching set-up seems like it needs another big right arm? Beyond Hurd and Guidry, if he stays in the closer role, and maybe Little, if he gets on track, your other candidates for prime roles are Ack, Herring, Loer, Jump, Anderson, Brown and Johnson. I know the West Monroe transfer from Alabama is coming in, but he seems more of a mid-week/low leverage candidate?

How are we feeling about our chances with Luke?

Woods’ stuff is legit, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is in a high leverage bullpen role.

You hope to land Holman and hope that Woods and Moffett can give you good 1-2 IP outings consistently. My hope is that Moffett proves to be a shutdown closer type guy. If he can do that consistently for this team it would be big. Also have Noot coming off injury. Will be interesting to see what you get from him. Interesting to watch the older guys also in Little, Collins, Dutton, Hellmers. Not sure what situations any of those guys will be in.

I still think there is something there for Collins. He's got a wicked curveball and a low to mid 90s fastball. He can throw a changeup as well. I really want the light to come on for him. If it does, he could be really good.

I think he has tons of potential. I want to see them go back to letting him throw all his pitches. It is obvious that Wes loves the breaking ball. Unfortunately when it comes to a breaking ball like Collins, it is hard to land it for strikes consistently. To be fair, his fastball command wasn't the greatest last season either. So he just needs to step it up this year. He can definitely be a valuable piece to the staff though.

It seemed like they were working on something with Collins this season, and he couldn't find consistency with it. I have high hopes for him this coming season out of the pen. I would not be surprised to see him in late innings - he's different than most of our other arms, like Guidry was this year.

Is he worth the gamble?

What exactly are you gambling. He is the top pitcher in the portal right now.
Posted on 7/18/23 at 9:12 am to BayTiger13
I think it was a joke related to the fact that he was the pitcher scratched by Bohanon on the infamous night that the gambling thing blew up

Ahhhhhhh, yea that went straight over my head. In my defense, people make some retarded comments on here. So I wouldn't put it past someone to truly be asking the question.
