A quick baseball recruiting treat

Just dropping by to give you all a quick treat. These are the rankings for LSU commits concerning the 2010 class based on the top 250 High School Prospects organized by PGcrosschecker.com
First off let me say this is the deepest recruiting class from top to bottom that I have ever seen since covering baseball. The draft may very well hit the class hard, BUT there are two factors in college recruiting. 1)You sign the kid assuring yourself he goes to your school or you never have to play him. 2)LSU is only graduating 3 seniors this year and will likely lose 4-5 juniors which only leaves about 8 spots open before transfers and attrition.
If you don't believe me look at the current LSU and what these High School seniors are in terms of height. LSU has 18 players over 6'1, 11 of these signees are 6'1 or taller.
12. Kevin Gausman 6'4 180 RHP CO
14. Cam Bedrosian 6'0 195 RHP GA
31. Jacoby Jones 6'3 190 SS MS
32. Garin Cecchini 6'2 220 SS LA
51. Austin Southall 6'2 210 OF LA
90. Zach Lee 6'3 190 RHP TX
91. Ryan Eades 6'3 185 RHP LA
112.Marcus Davis 6'3 190 OF OH
123.Joe Broussard 6'2 220 3B LA
137.Nick Rumbelow 6'1 190 RHP TX
164.Kevin Koziol 6'2 195 SS IL
167.Tyler Ross 6'3 210 C FL

Mainieri loves tall pitchers.

I thought he was ranked higher in most HS rankings. If he is right around 100 then add the CBB guys, I like his chances of attending LSU afterall (Assuming he has no major $$ issues right now)

I assume this is some relative of Steve Bedrosian... Sorry if I'm late in the game on this

Thanks Adam and Project, like to keep up with baseball recruiting but it's much harder to follow than football.
Baseball can't get here fast enough.
Ready for some G threads.

When Anthony Ranaudo came to LSU back in 07 he was a 6'7 skinny basketball player who could throw the ball roughly 90mph. He had some build, but since then has added much needed strength and thus his fastball is 97mph going into the spring.
It's much easier for a tall skinny pitcher 6'2 and upwards to fill out than a pitcher who is 5'10 or 5'11. The taller the pitcher the less distance it is to the plate when the ball is released thus the faster mph. A tall pitcher has more leverage when the ball is delievered.
Simply: The taller the pitcher the more potential one has to fill out and even have more movement on that pitchers fastball.

how long have u covered baseball?
Posted on 1/22/10 at 12:20 pm to Lester Earl
Covering in depth about 7. Used to be all over high school baseball but slowly made the switch.
Starting out in the Laval era got to be depressing, but there was only one way up after that. You really had to savor the title last year after that nine year drought.

Arm angle from a taller pitcher means the ball is not "flat",, harder to hit a ball coming in at an angle compared to a flat pitch

Problem is with the players departing after this year they will need some of these guys but at least 7 of those guys will never come to LSU.
Cecchini is not coming.
