well that wouldn't be the case here, so

If he is dead set on playing RB, that's fine. But advising him to do what's best for his career is hardly equivalent to "a square peg in a round hole".

Welcome aboard Devin, you are part of the #1 class.

with the shelf life of RBs in today's NFL, I don't get why some are still so against switching over
I don't get it either.
Some guys just want to tote the rock.
Smart money is to play linebacker.

LSU will be like a chainsaw coming down on the SEC!

The smart money for Stevan Ridley was also to play LB, but we took him as a RB, and that's turned out all right for him. When we took him, this board was unanimous that he would end up switching to LB or FB, and I think that, as much success Ridley has had, he would've had more as a LB, and anyone who saw him crush people on special teams before he ended up as LSU's starting tailback would likely agree. But, yeah, some guys just really want to tote the rock.

The flipside argument is we will only have 3 scholarship backs on the 2017 roster not counting incoming freshman after LF goes pro. But I could deal with that with White's potential as a LB

Ridley was 210 lbs in HS.
White is 250 lbs in HS. and an inch taller.
People just thought Ridley wasn't going to be very good because of weak white-boy private school HS competition and might be better off in one of those Chavis hybrid LB/SS roles.
People think White should be LB because he is fricking enormous and could be an absolutely ELITE LB prospect.

If he's 250 he'll need to lose 25lbs

Did the wreckless driving charge and fleeing charge end up being inaccurate?

He's huge. He carries it very well and is very fast, but he's a biggg ole boy.
