He will need to get stronger and he will @ the next level, but over 2200 yards in Louisiana HS ball forces you to at least take a hard look.

We just watched Gibbs run wild at Bama, go in the top half of the first round, weighing 195 to 200 lbs, score 20 + TD’s last year while splitting carries in Detroit ??, in the NFL and some still think you need to be 225 to be an SEC back.
This weight logic at RB doesn’t make one bit of since. Anything near 200 is big enough.
JT Lindsey and Harlem Berry are both true freshman currently listed at 184 and 185 on the official roster.
Berry deserves his praise and high ranking, as he legit reminds me of Reggie Bush.
On the other hand, I’d take Plater over JT anyday. In my opinion, their tapes are not eclose as far as vision, agility, decisiveness and explosiveness.
And trust, as a Tiger fan, I want the best for all of our players. But if JT is a back deemed good enough to wear the LSU uniform, no way Plater is less of a talent.
JT Lindsey ( Senior Hudl Midseason Highlights)
Jamarcea Plater Junior Highlights
Again, this is no knock on JT, I wish him all the best as a Tiger. This is just for comparison sakes for those posting saying Plater is not LSU material.
If plater was at RB as a sophomore, instead of safety, he’d have way more offers. Dude is a special back.
Regardless, in the portal era, even when missing on any in state prospect, there’s always the chance to get them in the portal if they ball out on another campus.

Added a little more to your post.

He looks closer to 5'7 than 5'9, but who cares? If he can play, he can play. What seems the most impressive is that for a smaller back he runs between the tackles instead of trying to bounce outside. He hits holes quickly, shows vision and cuts with little wasted effort or loss of acceleration. Those small backs can hide behind OL and make it hard for defenders to square up resulting in bad angles and broken tackles. Certainly an interesting prospect.
This is my expert, novice opinion.

My daughter goes to Shreve. When I have seen him in person, I would agree. He definitely looks closer to 5’7” in person. But the kid can play and he is tough and solid

Who was the rb for Shreve he replaced that moved to Arizona or some where out west last year? I thought that kid was really underrated.

We have to stop comparing every small back to jamyr gibbs and Reggie bush

My son was too small for football at 5'7" as a junior in HS. A year after graduation, he was 6'2".
If this kid does get to be 5'10" or 6'0", he'll be on everyone's wish list. Better not sleep on this.

Three of the best running backs of all time (Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton) were all in the 5’8”-5’10” range and weighed less than 200 lbs in high school.
Tony Dorsett was only 5' 11" 185 and he played 13 seasons retiring 2nd all-time in rushing behind Payton, after rushing for over 6,000 yards in college at Pitt.

2. Who compares to Reggie Bush other than Harlem Berry? Aint no way you've heard that comparison much outside of Harlem.
3. I gave multiple people. The whole point was acting like smaller RBs can't be productive.
Doug Martin listed 5'10 188 as recruit. Was listed 5'9 223 at combine
Dylan Sampson was listed 5'9 180 by 247, 5'10 180 by ESPN, and 5'10 175 by Rivals/on3. Was listed 5'8 200lb for combine.
Trevor Etienne was listed at 5'9 and between 200 and 207 by all recruiting services. Went to combine 5'9 198
Jarquez Hunter was listed at 5'10 190 on all services, checked in at 5"9 209 for the draft.
Bucky Irving was listed at 5'10 175 by the recruiting services that had profiles for him. He entered the combine at 5'9 192.
I could keep going on and on, because some of yall are too got damn bull headed to admit the truth.

Huh
I have nothing against “small” RBs
Posted on 7/23/25 at 7:00 am to Lester Earl
I remember a RBs named Dalton Hilliard who was barely 5’ 8”.

Watching a few minutes of Plater’s highlights he’s a bit of a straight line runner. Wilson may not like that aspect.
Richard Murphy was that kind of runner. They don’t tend to have great success in the SEC.

I think he is a solid low-mid tier P5 RB. I think he is smaller than listed ht/wt.
This reminds of the BS spewed about Travis Etteine back in 2016-17.
