2018 Class poised to be Solid Class. Your opinion win or loss for the staff?
Posted by TheLoneOFan

In a down year for Louisiana recruiting we are sitting 12th in the nation. Looks like the Louisiana Wall is in place. We probably finish with 10 of the top 13 in Louisiana. Justin Rogers is the fish that got a way QB. Orgeron and staff appear to have addressed needs heavy on the big boys DL & OL. Heavy on JUCO guys that can help now. Potentially special at WR & DB.
Provided we close with Chase and Surtain - I like this class to set up the stellar Louisiana class of 2019. 2019 is heavy w talent. We will need to find our 2019 QB (really important). OL, DL , & RB could be special in 2019. Collectively w this 2018 class combined w the potential 2019 class the TIGERS could be special for years to come.
2018 I THINK IS A SOLID WIN. Yes or no?
Hats off to the staff...
Favorites coming in CHASE is underrated. And he is rated highly
Travel Moore is a special pass rusher
Baskerville technically a very good linebacker that stays square to the play
Cole smith needs a year in the weight room but will start for 3 years at center. Underrated Davin Cotton is small quick and strong. Reminds me of Ed Oliver
Dantriese Scott is a super athlete that lined up at DL & WR. Will be special

You should never have a class without a QB. This class didn't address our RB need either.

quote:Spot on IMHO. To describe this class in a few words: Solid, addressed some holes that were Achilles heel type.

Disagree on RB. Again, kinda. I really like Curry, I think he's going to be very solid and productive it will just take a full year or two (there's my in-part agreement, need was more urgent). With Provens, I see more than just upside. I see the potential of a huge step-up. He'll have to do some work physically AND he'll have to be coached up very well for a 'leap', but the potential is there. Again, we didn't address immediate needs. I think CEH will be a stud; Ducre just might suprise us all. Brossette.. who the hell knows. Not sure that's enough.

If we don’t get Goodrich we failed at DB. You need four. Surtain and Joseph are such high quality that you can get away with three, but two is a failure.
You should have a QB in every class not counting walkons. That would be a fail if we don’t get one.
Other than these two, which can be overcome, it’s a very good class. We will always find it easier to get skill players, so loading up on bigs is addressing the problem that beset Miles.
Also, who says it’s a down year in LA? The recruiting services. They can easily be wrong. I have a hard time believing there is that much of a year-to-year difference in the top 20 LA guys.
I say this recruiting class is a win if we close with Joseph, Surtain and Chase. Even better if we add the QB or Goodrich.

You serious, Clark?

I think it's a very good class, but not an elite one. A lot of people look at the 247 ranking, but I don't think that tells the whole story.
I think 247 missed on ranking some of our commits. I'm not saying all of these guys deserve to be rated much higher, but I feel Rosenthal, Smith, Jaray Jenkins, Livingston, and Sheffer are probably all underrated to particular degrees.
I also think having Cole Tracy as part of the class brings the overall ranking down. We needed a kicker, and it seems Tracy may be the best, but hypothetically if you replace him with a guy like say, Harold Joiner, our class ranking falls in the 275 range which is usually good for about 8th in the country.

NO...and I only pick that because you didn't give us a choice including "Hell No".
C'mon man...SOLID used to be top five in the nation for our program. If No. 12 in the nation is our new standard, then maybe your blog is noteworthy.
I wanna be a big "O" fan, but this program seems to be headed in the wrong direction or should I say directions (recruiting, coaching, deflections, etc.)

Class sucks
Too many three stars
If you’re not first you’re last
4 stars are low 4s
Bama is awesome
Could’ve addressed needs with better players
Took too many early commitments
I thought this was coach O’s strength
What a failure
Doom and gloom
CheeriOs suck
Am I doing this right?

I agree with you about a qb. Nowadays qbs transfer so quickly the depth chart can get really thin really fast if one of them bolts.
Disagree on the running back situation. Curry Will be a monster and provens has a ton of upside.

When's its all said and done, you can decide to love them or leave them. Let's not get ahead of ourselves based on what is still on the table.

This will be answered tomorrow. We recruited 3 to 4 guys over the last few months. If we get Chase and Surtain then yes.If not this staff not finish well.

I'll let you know tomorrow how solid the class ended up, not like we have to wait long

Agreed, we took 2 last year and are trying to get 2 for 2019.
What's better? 1 in 2017, 1 in 2018 and 1 in 2019 or 2 in 2017 and 2 in 2019?
I am never a fan of taking a guy just to be a warm body, if you feel like he cant be a contributor, there's no need to fill the spot.
