From Gino back in the day:

John Battle 6-2 185 Hallandale High School, Hallandale, FL

When covering Florida recruiting, it never has a shortage of athletic secondary prospects. When John Battle participated at the Under Armour All Star combine a few weeks ago, there were rumblings of acknowledgement from Deion Sanders, and numerous other coaches on hand.

What stands out on Battle, this early in recruitment, is how coachable he is, not to mention, he has elite speed. Also a member of the track team, Battle has advanced to the State Championships in both freshman and sophomore campaigns. Finishing 5th in the 110 high hurdles last year as a sophomore, Battle shows a tremendous amount of speed with two years remaining of competition ahead. Battle has PR in the 110 hurdles of 14.4 and 39.01 for the 300 hurdles.

In football, he has demonstrated versatility by playing three different secondary positions, and that coaches around the southeast taking notice. Coach Corey Raymond from LSU is suppose to stop by Hallandale tomorrow to check in on the rising junior.

Several schools have taken notice and have already begun reaching out from this prized safety prospect who is on the rise. Alabama, LSU, Florida, Fl.St., Miami, USF, Maryland, Duke, South Carolina, and UCF are just some of the schools who have already expressed interest in Battle.

Battle shares with tigalaya what stands out about some of these schools:
Alabama: "They are Alabama, and they just won the National Championship, not much more to have say about them."
LSU: "Besides their reputation on defense, I just found out that they have the #1 rated Broadcasting Department in the country."
Florida: "I have been to Florida's campus numerous times, and think it as a very beautiful campus."

As talented as Battle is- beneath the exterior, is a very humble person who conducts himself at the highest level. A very mild-mannered person who coaches in Florida have given rave reviews because he is such a wonderful person to be around.

When not competing on the grid-iron, or the track, you may spot Battle immersed in acting. Coach Dameon Jones of Hallandale has said that Battle is quite a performer. Those skills have helped Battle to wipe out the distractions of performing in front of large crowds.

Unlike some recruits from the south Florida region, Battle has thrived under some of the most intense pressure while being coached by Coach Jones, and his dad.

Battle has expressed interest in visiting LSU, and is completely open at this point of his recruitment. we have also learned that Battle is no stranger to jumping into his passions with both feet. He has already begun to practice towards his major of choice in college by editing highlights from high school sports on facebook. You can catch a glimpse of his work at LINK

thanks for that interesting read. I'll have to watch his video now but a 6'3 safety with elite speed has me very intrigued. Wonder if he's a ball hawk too.

Definite safety prospect. Good straight line speed but needs to loosen his hips.

Can one coach "hips"?
This kid is big, humble, smart and very fast. He seems to be precisely the kind of athlete we want.
I'm asking about the hips, not trying to criticize.

If you can't flip your hips fluidly enough then you become a safety. If you can't flip them enough there then you better be big enough to step into an OLB role

You can train them to a degree. But he runs track and does hurdles, do its probably just a technique issue.
