What are you guys using for ant killer and preventative? I have about 2 acres that I want to treat.
Is Talstar effective for both?

Amdro ant bait is the best for preventing fire ants. I usually do twice per year in warmer months. At 2 acres, probably better to broadcast vs spray. You can get bifen granules as well. Cheapest I've found is domyown.com.

I got crosscheck from Site One in the fall and it knocked them out. I guess I'll wait until I see another mound and then do it again.

Tarus works great, one spray does the job. I keep a little mixed in a quart sprayer in case I see any ants later on. You might get a mosquito company to spray your yard also. What they spray will get the ants too.

Does it have to be Talstar? Tractor Supply has Wisdom, which is Bifen... Would that be ok?

Talstar granules does need to be watered in but not much water at all. The insecticide is wrapped in clay, that is why it is gray, and very easily gets washed off.

I used Wisdom a little last year because I got a better price on it. They are the exact same product.

I use the liquid. Im down to once per year in the early Spring. I dont typically see any ant hills until the late winter and its only a handfull (I nail these with granules). Its also great for soaking the perimeter of your home to control sugar ants.

Bifenthrin is the way.

What would you use to spray the liquid? I can get the granules but am curious what you would use to spray a little over half an acre.

I use the liquid concentrate. spray the mound and 1 foot around it....you don't have to saturate it.
Come back in an hour and there is an ant apocalypse on the mound. No one gets out to migrate.
