Price tag is high. Talking 20K, but that is for complete installed including running a gas line. Don't have that now.

Yep. That’s what I’ve been getting quoted as well.

Friend of mine installed a 22 kw cummins. In the first half hour it threw a rod in the engine. Cummins installed a brand new unit. After 41 hours during Delta it died again. Threw a rod on the second unit. Doesn't say much for the cummins air cooled engine.

If going liquid cooled, I would go generac as they have the mitishbish motor that has performed very well from my research. Get bigger than what you need.

Everyone I know that had liquid cooled after Laura, had zero problems.

Air cooled sucks not matter brand,, Air cooled is air cooled and in the environment of South la during hurricane season.......well you are going to have issues. Honestly I would say get the generac just because much more parts available.

If anyone decides to go air cooled, beat advice I can give you is keep the box open and the side off unless its raining. Just close the top during rain. Also check and change your oil daily, change every 96 hours of run time. Check and change filters frequently.

Kohler is manufactured in the US. In fact, if you ever get the opportunity .....go up to Kohler and spend a day. Everything is done on one campus. Bathroom and kitchen fixtures, medium and small generators. One of my customers for years.

Yea and on the air cooled units they have the same issue, the heat causes the chip at the base of the stepper assembly to burn up.

Air cooled are not made for the South LA environment. Helped out multiple people with air cooled Kohler units during the storm.

As far as liquid cooled, I'm sure Kohler is just as good as the others, but generac is the bigger name, therefore easier to get parts and service for.

During the aftermath of a storm, its hard enough to get anyone to come service the things when there is an issue. But if you are relying on someone from out of town to come.....well good luck.

Everyone who I would consider for installation and service sells Generac and at least one other. I’ve talked with 7 or 8 outfits so far. Every single one advises to go with something other than Generac. Generac has become a big box store generator in recent years.

That’s my impression of Generac.During Laura the people in my area with 4-5 year old Generacs had good luck with them. The ones installed in last year or so failed with in a day or two.

I see a lot of anti Generac talk on here and I just don’t get it. I’ve had one for three years and have had no issues whatsoever. It’s been used a few times now. Most recently, it ran for a little over 24 hours during Delta. Didn’t miss a beat.

I think a lot of the anti Generac talk is just propaganda and/or people who were sold bad units.

As I said in my post, people that I’ve talked to that have had them several years had good luck with them during Laura.Other people that bought them in last year or 2 had them fail early on.Guy about a mile away had one with 6 hours on it before Laura ,had it fail within 48 hours. Then he had to scramble around to find a portable generator, had it sitting next to the dead Generac.
There are lots of reviews on the Internet that seem to indicate the same thing.I was all set to get me one but I’ve changed my mind.,If I spend $10,000.00,I want something I have confidence in.

Do what you want but I think you could buy a Generac and be good. For every negative anecdotal experience you have, I have twice that but positive. And these are people who bought one in that window you’re talking about (the last two years) and no issues whatsoever.

What about Politiceaux’s post?I’ve read a lot of bad reviews of Generac ( good one’s also).I might could get one and have no trouble with it but I’ll never know.I already ordered 2 Honda eu 7000s and a parallel kit,he won’t get them in until 2021.I’d rather not have to deal with gasoline but I have confidence in Honda. My idea is having them paralleled I’ll be able to run more stuff and in the unlikely event one fails I won’t be without anything.
I have a Briggs 5500 but I’ve run it so hard(one 10 day outage and Laura 9 days) I don’t have a lot of confidence in it anymore plus it’s so frikken loud.I already have a Honda eu 2200 I keep on the back porch for the television and Internet because we’ve had quite a few short outages last few months. So many I don’t bother to put it back in my shop.

I don't think you will be sorry if you go that route so long as you have the simple plug in to allow simple hookup.

I will say, if you go this route and have to run it, pull the meter so you don't back feed.

Dont pull the meter.

Just get an interlock for the electrical panel.

I’m going to get an electrician to install a plug in and an interlock.I want to do it safely and not have frikken extension cords going all over like I’ve been doing in the past.

Don't buy a Generac. I have heard so many stories of them failing.

Kohler has better quality and the best service.
