I was really concerned about that.

It's not as rough as it initially seems, and not as rough as it appears in photos.

Ours is really quite smooth, and cleans very easily.

All our countertops are white marble. I have 5 kids under 12 and they take a beating. Are there scratches, chips, a spot where i had to scrape off super glue? yes. but as someone pointed out, that's character.

You won't notice any of those spots but i do, and when the house it empty they'll be a reminder.

also, lol at whoever said they have to have granite because they cant stand scratches and everything must look new all the time forever.... yeah, don't have kids.

I don't think Quartz is going anywhere. Reasonably priced, sturdy, easy to clean, and can have a more customizable or consistent look and still be a natural stone.

Quartz is ugly. It’s essentially fancy Formica. All quartz that is made to look like real stone is just so bad. And people love to be like “oh, it looks so natural….”

It is what it is, a very sturdy man made product.

You can literally find pretty much and color and design. If you can't find a good look that's a you problem.

Ever thought that people say that because it's actually true? It's 90% quartz minerals.

I have dolomite for outside kitchen / island. no issues so far. its more porous than granite, less porous than marble, but able to achieve the "veiny" look that the standard granite doesn't offer. if theres standing water from rain or sink splash or drinks, yes it will show a discoloration, but once dries it goes away. When I was shopping around at the time, all the granite started looking the same. I do have 3cm granite inside kitchen and bathrooms.
So I just wanted to throw Dolomite in the mix.

Ours are 3cm honed white marble installed in '09. the installers evidently put a wax finish on it which helped but still have dull spots from acid attacks, water spots etc.
M-I-L decided to slosh around some vinegar on them about a month after we moved in. She didn't know.
A little elbow grease and 1-2000 grit wet sandpaper will get rid of spots if I wanted to.

Stainless

We did quartz in the mew house eith a tile backsplash.

The second I stop paying someone to clean it, the wife is going to realize it was a bad choice.

I want to do full quartz backsplash.

Stainless is what I wanted. Outdoor kitchen will be all stainless. I'll cook out there.
