New Orleans used to have a thriving population of monk parakeets they nested in the many large palms, especially in lakeview and on canal. Katrina put a huge dent in them though

I saw many in the warehouse district this past winter.

I never see regular blackbirds in Baton Rouge anymore. Starlings( which aren’t native to USA) I see quite often. The starlings wipe out the mealworm feeder meant for the bluebirds.

that’s good to hear they are cool birds and not usually a menace to native birds. Most of the big palms on canal Blvd aren’t there anymore
