What would you estimate the cost for the following project?

Remove whole house attic fan from attic. Remove vent from hallway ceiling underneath the fan. Remove crown molding from hallway. Patch the sheet rock. Reinstall crown molding.
Just curious what you all would guess. I’d like to compare to our quotes.

Yeah, it’s $2000. I was shocked.
Craziest part is that the attic fan removal is only $400. It’s the sheet rock patching that’s driving up the cost.

Well, keep in mind the Sheetrock work can require 2-4 trips, taking anywhere from a couple of hours on up, each trip. Making it problematic to fill up the work day with other jobs.

Removing the attic fan is a 0 material game. Repairing the sheetrock introduces material and maybe labor other than himself for the texturing. $2,000 does seem like the "I'd rather not" price though.

To patch the Sheetrock correctly, prime, caulk and paint is a minimum of three trips. Getting that attic fan down is a few man job. Putting the crown back up is a two-man job if it's a big hallway.

I'll send a clean cut project manager in a nice truck, on time, and make sure my crew does A+ work. I'll also make sure they respect your home, it's occupants, and I'll warranty the work.
Price is $4000.
Kidding. Mostly.

Patch the sheet rock yourself. A couple YouTube videos and a test piece of drywall and you can save yourself 1000 bucks.
As other posters said. Drywall patch and tape, float, and texture are 3 seperate trips to allow for dry time. That's half your cost.

Why are they removing the crown molding? You can patch Sheetrock just a small piece at a time? If that was something the person that quoted recommended you may look for someone else.
If you can do the demo, you can likely find someone that will patch and texture a couple of sheets of drywall for $500-1000. I have a couple older guys that will do work for me that’s cash, easy, and on their time, as in around their hunting and fishing schedule. But they do great work.

Why are you removing the crown, anyway?
You shouldn’t have to take it off to patch drywall, just skim right up to it, also, what kind of damage are you patching?
Can you provide some photos? We can give you a better assessment if you do.

I removed the one at our old house by myself.. Well lol its still in the attic. Just left it there for the new owner.
We had our contractors come in and fix the ceiling and I think it was probably cost to a grand for that because remember you're going to have to paint the whole ceiling and you don't want to skimp on a drywall guy because you'll see the ugly outline of where the fan was forever.

Sounds about right on cost. I love the hell out of my attic fan and would never remove it though
