Agreed if you are an Officer. I’ve heard about their tiers lol and I actually think they are being sued.

I hear that their customer service is very good, but be prepared to spend big $$$ on the premiums. I got a quote a few years ago, and it was absurd. I've got friends who have it now, and have bragged on USAA for years. They are currently getting quotes elsewhere. Premiums are just too high.

Depends on your tier. Mine is cheap as shite. Then again I'm an officer.

I have personally been treated like crap by them and no longer use them so YMMV.

Homeowners insurance in Louisiana is going to cost big $$$ unless you are with one of the smaller companies that will find any way possible to get out of paying at claim time. USAA is actually cheaper than State Farm and is just as good (maybe a tad better) than State Farm in terms of actually paying legitimate claims.

Sure, you can get a Safeco, ASI/Progressive, Centauri, Federated National type of company for MUCH less but you will be rolling the dice at claim time with a company like those. Safeco is probably the best small company out there but I've had some customers of mine tell me they were fricked by them in the past and although I only know one side of those stories, that one side seems legit enough for them to have paid out and they didn't.

I've never heard of a single LEGITIMATE claim being denied by a State Farm, USAA, Farm Bureau, etc. Pay a bit more for the peace of mind WHEN you have a claim.

Full Disclosure: I no longer work with ANY of the companies I just mentioned. I just gave my unbiased, professional opinion.

Customer Service sucks if you have to deal with Tampa Bay office. Wait until after they close and get the San Antonio or Denver office...best customer service there.

USAA is raping the people in the safe areas to cover the ones in high risk. I've never made a claim on homeowners and my rates keep going up and up.

i had USAA for approximately 20 years until i decided to shop. I went with Farm Bureau, the auto rates were pretty much the same, the home owners was half. i never had a major claim with USAA and lets hope that stays the same with Farm Bureau.

Yeah I'm REALLY considering dropping USAA for home and just keeping them for auto...According to the form...I only get a dividend check for auto insurance anyways...Homeowners isn't factored in. If I can save on the homeowners..I will.

I have gotten quotes from them over the years but they are always higher than what I am paying.

If your roof is close to needing replacing, have it replaced before you move to another insurance company. Roofing companies will come out and work with you and you can have usaa pay for it as opposed to going somewhere else, filing a claim and then raising your premiums to try to offset that claim. You should also get somewhat of a break if your roof is newer.

Some old lady hit my parked truck a while back and she had something called national general. I was shocked at the level of customer service they provided for me. I have Geico which is cheap but the worst.

You have a distorted and partially incorrect view of how this works.

If you make a claim for a new roof and then switch to another company, your insurance score is still increasing (which is bad) and will still result in a higher premium at the new company. Even if it’s a weather related claim that results in you getting a new roof, your insurance score will still be negatively impacted and your new company will see it and rate your new policy accordingly. It wouldn’t be as bad as if you had made a ratable claim (such as a fire claim, liability claim, most burst pipe claims, etc) but your new rate would still have that roof claim factored in. Now, you may still save money if the new company has lower base rates but to say that going about it the way you described will always be the best way is incorrect.

No other auto insurance company could beat USAA in my area. But their homeowners was triple the quote another company gave me so I don't have them for home. Houston metro area fwiw.

I had flood claims for truck and house. USAA absolutely busted arse taking care of me. Couldn't imagine better service.
