ETA: you can’t multitask? I’m feeding a little one now. Only messing, appreciate input.

Do I sink the 4x4 in the cement footing or just attach on top of the footing with an anchor/bracket.
Don’t put the posts in the concrete. Use these:
What is best way to attach the outter boards to the posts? Bolts or I’ve seen notching. Want to make sure this is all part of the plan.
Notching is really the right way, but you’ll be okay to lag the rim joists into the posts. Use these:
2x6x12 joists 16in off center attached with joist hangers. Wood deck screws everywhere.
I’d go with 2x8 an no center sill, but 2x6 with a center sill will be good. Use the correct size and number of fasteners specified by the manufacturer of the hangers. A lot of guys miss this out of ignorance, laziness, or both.
Do I put the waterproof tape on top?
It certainly won’t hurt to put ice and water shield over the tops of the joists
Do I need a center beam? If not, do I need more posts? Anything else I’m missing? Planning to attach gazebo on top of this.
Answered above. Also, make sure to field treat all cut ends, notches, etc. with copper naphthenate.
At this point I feel like I deserve more payment than the guy who originally framed that shitty little deck…

Klump, I have a recommendation for you. Pull up that piece of shite you cheaply put down, get someone to come pour a 12x16 slab, and be done with it.

Gotta go with a deck here man. The guy that put it in is coming to pull it up. You think I’m getting my hands dirty? I ant no man.

This is how I did it.

That’s impressive. I guess between being paranoid and also because they are so damn light I just keep my patio TV in the pool room and bring it out when I’m watching shite. So the key there is just a mount that is easily put on and removed.

They have awesome motorized ones that will sit horizontally and then bend to a 90 for viewing. My brother has that for his outdoor TV set up and it’s great

Posted on 10/20/22 at 10:52 am to irishTiger18

Used 2x6s 16 on center. Joist hangers with all appropriate fasteners. Bolted posts with deck joist ties on each post/2x6 connection. What is wrong now?
Deck ties secured with 5/8 bolts and the screws.
Here it is

Yes it’s 2x6s. Yes the post are in concrete. I am ok with it. Yes I have taken over the project myself. I was worried about squaring and leveling everything but he did that Sunday for me.

Any suggestions for below the deck board where the gazebo post will go? Would rather go into something more than a 5/4 board. Open to any and all suggestions at this point since I am now doing. Plan to finish Sunday.

MUCH better - make sure you get some blocking in between the joists and glad to see that appears to be treated lumber this time.
That said, I wish you would have prepped the ground underneath. That areas is gonna hold water bad once the grass dies out.
Before you deck it, you still have a chance.

Okay what should I do? Just tear up grass and lay some garden fabric ? Oh there is subsurface drainage under it. Two drains 1 you just can’t see them.

Ok, I didn't know this - as long as standing water doesn't pool up under there you should be good. There will be some airflow as is.

Still need deck blocks at least 2 per span centered under the 2X6.

What kind of boards did you use on the back side to enclose that side?
