Here in W TN the rule has always been no planting until April 15. It usually works but every now and then a freeze/frost will slip in after April 15.

i thought we were done with the cold so i had planned on getting my flowerbed planted last week, im now glad things took longer than i expected so now i dont have to sweat it out with this freeze.

my only issue now is i know they dont ever bring plants inside at HD, so i may have to wait an extra week or two now to be sure i dont buy freeze damaged plants

Lowes and HD gonna take a loss this year in the garden center. They should sell half price today instead of losing everything.

Should have waited till the Pecan trees leafed. I will plant next week. Lafayette. Freaken seeds are triple the price as compared to before Biden.

Hell, the only plants I'm concerned with at this point are my blueberry bushes...they are covered in flowers and small Berries right now. Don't want to lose those, but not sure if it's worth trying to cover them.

Covering does very little, especially if it becomes windy, like we had in Houston, today.

All of my tomato plants this year grew naturally in the raised beds from last year’s fallen fruit

Did the same for one area of one of my beds and have probably close to 100 tomato plants. Some are developing well.

I would say yes. Drove by Home Hardware store and saw they had a sprinkler system spraying their stock of shrubbery. They must know something.

Looks like only a couple hours below 30 in Hammond so I’m going to just hope for the best.
the "best" is not what i got

all my tropicals are fried. blooming shrubs are fried. new citrus growth is fried. not a disaster but disappointing

Suffered complete failure of the covered tomatoes and peppers. Even the ones in a pot with another pot fit over the top. Raised bed with each plant covered then a blanket over that. I actually was optimistic. Will be starting over on grape/cherry tomatoes and all peppers. I have some other tomato plants still inside.

Any update of the freeze around lake Charles? I covered last night but can’t uncover until I get off work this afternoon.

My thought that the soil temps may protect them was a dismal failure. The dirt was frosted over. I will start from scratch on Thursday.

Temp was 35 in Carlyss around 6a but I had frost on my windshield. Still dark when I left for work so didn’t get to check beds, I didn’t cover anything.

I heard don't plant til the pecan trees bloom.

I've heard this one also.

It's funny because my nephew was at the house two weeks ago and asked why all the trees had bloomed except the pecan. I told him winter must not be over yet.

One time I saw the pecans screw up and got burned. It was the first week of April.

But it's sure a good guide to go by.
