Are they worth trying out or just get a decent gas grill? We don't grill a lot, but looking to grilling a lot more.

I've got nothing to offer other than I read it as Pit Bull pellet grill and my first thought was that the meat would probably be pretty chewy.

Yes, They are a good option for a cheaper pellet grill. Budget really determines a lot for these "grills"

Depends on how you will use it. Mostly cooking burgers, hot dogs, steak? Grilling items at high heat for short amount of time? If so I'd lean gas grill.

If you're wanting a grill look at the rec teq Bullseye. I had the pitt boss and it was a good smoker but didn't get hot enough to sear well. The Bullseye gets 800 or so degrees.

I think you should buy a Recteq and be done with it.

Go Traeger or go home. You TRULY get what you pay for here. I speak from experience. Traeger cooks more evenly. Not sure about Pit Boss but you can easily find parts for the Traeger. The all break at some point.

Pit Boss would be my last choice!

My advice if going to a pellet grill is, make sure it has a PID controller and wifi. Accurate temps and being able to monitor the progress of the cook and temps from ANYWHERE, is a game changer.

quote:No offense to your choice, but I did extensive research before pulling the trigger on a new grill. At the time, my buddy swore by his new, top of the line, Traeger. I did my homework and saw where the quality of their products have fallen off considerably. My buddy is now saying the same thing.

Yup. I mentioned the Bullseye because it's a similar price to the pit boss

Can confirm, I have a Traeger.
Go ReqTec or Yoder. My Traeger sucks at holding temp. They outsourced to china for their parts and went downhill.

If you go pellet grill, which I recommend highly, go get the RecTeq RT700 and don't look back. You have to order online....no distribution.
Best cooking device ever....

I’d actually say Camp Chef is the only true quality competitor to Traeger. Kinda like BMW and Mercedes. Everything else is a Hyundai Genesis. Great price and lots of features, but missing that original engineering and solid construction.

I’ve smoked on all of them. For the price you can not beat the Lowes exclusive pit boss 1150. It has some nice features, easy to clean the fire pot, sliding heat shield for direct fire to sear, WiFi PID controller and thicker metal than Traeger. Customer support is just as good as req tec imo.

I can not stand my bullseye. I’ve had it for about a year and it’s nothing but trouble.
No grease management which means:
A: horrible flare-ups
B: clogged auger tube
Can’t cook anything that drips grease because it will be a flaming mess.
When it gets clogged, smoke backs up through the firebox then you have that dripping with grease. I’ve had to dismantle it multiple times to try to clean it out. I use an aluminum pan to try to catch droppings but that only does so much.
Also, the built in grill thermometer is at best between 25 and 50 deg off.

I don't have any of the problems that you listed and I use mine multiple times a week. I've had it a year.
If I cook something greasy I crank it up to riot for a few minutes when I'm done to burn everything off. I never let it build up. I do have small flair ups when doing a lot of wings or thighs but it's a grill. I'd have the same from charcoal or gas.
You can adjust/calibrate the thermometer.

RecTeq is Chinese, too. Partially assembled in US out of Chinese parts. The American brands are Yoder, Mak, Pitts n Spitts etc.
