Went work the corn and pea patch today.
Was given a cultivator toy to play with.

Picked and sold over 8 pounds of mixed greens on Tuesday, kale, a butterhead called Skyphos, and romaine.

Hey man, this is the garden thread. Not the professional farmer thread.
Just kidding. That is fantastic! I’m a little jealous.
I just got done picking in the garden. The tomatoes are definitely starting to come in.

X100 Darth Tiger
I was competitive in everything i participated in when I was younger. I still have that spirit except I focus it towards gardening. I enjoy the process just as much if not even more then harvesting and eating it.

If anyone needs an all natural chew toy for your dog, give him the root stalk of a cabbage

Couldn’t hurt to try. But I’ve heard of people trying everything under the sun with little to no success. I don’t have any experience battling them because I don’t grow them. But I’ve heard the best way to be successful growing squash and zucchini is to grow a lot of them. Power in numbers. I wish you luck.

What’s wrong with my tomato plants? It’s 82 here today and they are wilting like it’s 100 outside. They also have been dropping flowers for a few weeks now
This is the main reason I started a garden so many years ago. I was gifted some tomato plants and tried growing them in 5 gallon buckets. Once they outgrow the bucket they are impossible to keep happy. Tomatoes are heavy feeders with big root systems. If you're going to grow them in containers I'd recommend going a lot bigger than a 5 gallon bucket. Unless you are growing smaller, determinate varieties. Those would be the exception.

Had a few start to have some yellow leaves and withering limbs. Sprayed down with been oil and fungicide. It’s going to rain here all next week. Think I may too dress some fertilizer.
The squash and little tomatoes are going nuts and we’re having fresh green beans with chicken fried venison and squash tonight!

Which type of broccoli did you grow? Very nice job!

Yes. Sevin is the only way I’m able to grow squash and zucchini. I use a turkey baster looking thing and just dust the actual vine/stalk of the plants. It’s worked well for me.

Yes, and added about 3” of mulch in bottom before I put dirt in.
Was this to improve drainage similar to putting rocks on the bottom?
This actually worsens drainage by raising the water table. When water penetrates through the soil and meets the mulch that has a much different soil structure, im assuming big chunks, it will start to pool around that area and could cause root rot.
And since you have mulch on bottom and mulch on top, in a small 5 gallon container with little soil and not a lot room for roots to spread, I’m assuming you have some root damage.

Does anyone else notice that when you buy bonnie pepper plants the leaves and plant look different compared to ones grown from seed?
These are the same type jalapeño plants, 1 i grew from seed, the other is bonnie plant.
The pics don’t do it real justice, but bonnie plants always seem to have leaves that are smaller, and slightly different, more flat, shade of green, and seem to be more uniform shape.
Curious if it’s just me or if anyone else notice this also.

I think someone in your vicinity has a bunch of clover in their yard. Your bees are cheating on you.

I don’t know about peppers, but I’ve read that Bonnie plants are fed early on with a hormone that makes growth short and stocky and affects the color of the plant. I haven’t really done any of my own research on that, but could be a possibility? I also feel like your own seed starts always just dkbetter. I’m pretty lucky that I’ve got a really good feed store close to my house that sells seed starts from local-ish growers, but even then, I feel like my seed starts always do better.
