That for sure, take pics as you take screws out... There are lots of steps I wasn't trying to cover that should happen for sure!

Your wife might be convinced they need to match though. I have no advice there.

Wondering if I could just fix my LG then.

You may as well try, you've got nothing to lose. This is how you learn to fix shite.

My 5 yr. old Maytag dryer just went out about a month ago, the service guy said it will be anywhere between $300-$500 to come and out and fix. I'm certain it would've been $500 and at that price I thought I may as well just buy a brand new dryer.
I went online and narrowed the issue down to two things, the heating element or the thermal fuse. I went on Amazon and found a cheap Chinese kit that had all the parts I needed and more for like $30. When I got the kit, I replaced the thermal fuse first, that didn't work. Then replaced the heating element and voila, back in business. After I knew the problem. I ordered the correct part from a Maytag supplier and now just waiting for the Chinese part to fail. Diagnosed and fixed the thing for about $130 and 30 mins on YouTube.

Because it doesn't matter that much.

The basic technology of drying clothes hasn't changed in 60 years. The extra "features" are just things that break.

Thing is, the Speed Queen dryer is a heavier-duty built version of an old-school dryer, you are paying for things like better drum support, better bearings, better motor, better heating coils, and better serviceability. My 20+ year old Whirpool dryer is basically the next best thing, but those aren't really available now. A cheap Amana dryer is going to need new parts in 5 years and a mid-range Maytag probably will too if it sees heavy usage. I just installed a new Maytag set for my fiancée's mother, the dryer was about $600 and I know it's going to have issues in th next few years with the amount of use it will get.

Bumped for update.

Got a cheap dryer as recommended. Looks great and got installed today. Got the basic Amana for like $600 installed with haul away.

Didn’t make it through one load. Didn’t even start on its first load! Called the appliance company and they’re sending a text out immediately.

For reference it is a normal sized load. Maybe 1/3 of the drum is full if that and there’s maybe 2 towels in there.

Damn. That's some bad luck. Sorry to hear it. Hopefully they get you going soon. Everything is shite these days.

So the tech just came out. Dryer is fine. It’s doing the same thing the old one did. Can barely handle a load of clothes. Apparently the voltage from the outlet isn’t cutting it.

We had the whole panel replaced when we moved and admittedly the electrician did frick up on his first attempt. This was the electrician my realtor found but ultimately was contracted through the sellers as a presell fix.

He forgot to correctly install some kind of ground rod and ended up having to pay for our house to be run on generator power until it was fixed. So he already has one strike against him there but he made it right immediately.

His second strike is he inadvertently disconnected the baseboard heaters throughout the home. It’s summer and he was scheduled to come back sometime for future work on my new theater I’m building so I was going to chat with him about that then and why we’ve let it linger.

The previous sellers claim the dryer worked 100% fine before they left, but I do have reason not to trust them 100% as they’ve been less than forthcoming about some water issues in the basement that we know they repaired and they still won’t tell us why when we bring it up. Assuming they don’t want to accidentally admit they covered up issues illegally or something like that. They’re also just a little weird in general.

So I’m thinking it’s very possible the electrician that replaced our panel fricked up and now has cost us $600 on a new dryer that we probably didn’t even need. So even when you hire a professional you can still get totally fricked by bad work.
