Anyone familiar with these 4patriots solar powered generators. Now that my parents don't have to deal with my aging grandfather, they intent to ride out anything under a Cat3. We were talking about Francine, and they told me they have the Patriot Power 1800 to run their fridge & freezer if we lose power. The concerning part was they mentioned keeping it in the sunroom, so they don't have as far to go to charge with the solar panel.

Doesn't use gas, so carbon monoxide doesn't appear to be a concern. Just hadn't heard about these, looks like their advertisement focus was for winter weather, and do not know anything about reliability, how long they really last, charge times...

You need a roof full of solar panels constantly charging multiple tesla power walls to power your house for an extended outage. You're looking at $40,000-$50,000 i bet.

Run a fridge and freezer for how long? One or two hours, certainly able to do that. Do you actually know the start-up and running power requirements of the fridge and freezer? I know my fridge only needs about 125W running during refrigeration cycle but takes 470W during defrost, over the course of an hour it will average about 200Wh used so that 768Wh solar generator would only keep me going for less than 4 hours. These things have their uses for minor outages but if you want something pretty capable you are going to spend a lot more money than just getting a good portable generator will run you.

Google says refigerators use about 2000Wh per day. The Patriot Power 1800 has a capacity of 800Wh. So you're looking at 9.6 hours of run time.

Thanks all, was just curious because as I said, never heard of this brand and the solar panel recharging through me off. Didn't really think of it as a large battery, but 1st response was right. That's all it really is. I suppose it could be a quick fix for shorter outages and if you need to keep your "generator" inside at night.

They are advertising 13-19 hours for a fridge, but I'm sure it's ideal conditions with one of the better energy efficient models...

The 19 hr run time is with the panel in full sun most likely. That's a small system from a site that is long on sales pitch and short on technical info.

I was wondering about those too. I live in a fully electric townhouse. Dont really want to store gasoline.

Thinking these are more geared towards campers? And there's the cost.

This bad boy is $4600!

I have a 3kw/3kwh I built for $500. Would have been near $300 but one of my fridges is old and requires a pure sine wave inverter. The new variable speed fridges will work fine on cheap modified sine inverters. My main fridge will run 3+ days on it or just over one day with the beer fridge included.

The pack doubles as my 4 wheeler battery and will output 15kw DC.
