added a gas patio heater

What heater did you get and are you happy with it? Was about to add them to our plan(Mounted) but I feel like they are pretty invasive. I know we will want one/some but curious of your thoughts on what you got. Thanks

It was this stainless one from Lowe's. The in-laws got it for us as a Christmas present, but apparently there was a run on them during the holidays so we just got it a couple weeks ago. He had ordered it, something about backorders etc and we have it now.

LINK

Instructions said it takes an hour to put together. Count on two hours though if you get it. Every stainless surface on it had the blue plastic film or thicker white plastic to protect it from scratches. All around the hinges and in all the little nooks and crannies. So that took a while to get all cleaned up.

They have a table with the gas fire in the middle of it, and we thought about getting one of those instead. I would actually prefer that, but we have a toddler, so the idea of open flames on a table was a no go. This one all the heat is 6 feet off the ground, and the ring around the top directs it downwards. Works pretty well. Our deck is a decent size at 12'x20', but this does seem a bit large since we have the shed roof slanting down instead of a vaulted ceiling. I wheel it over beside the dining table when we're not using it, and wheel it to behind the couch when we are. I like that it can be moved around easily. I had it by my glider the night I put it together, and having it there sort of warms one end of the couch and the chair. Just depending on how many people are out there I can roll it from one spot to another.

You also mentioned mounted, I thought about that as well, but this is something that's realistically only going to get used 3-4 months a year at the most. If we had gone that route, I would have bought an electric model and replaced the fan we have out there in the fall and switch it back in the spring. Might not be as efficient as propane, but that was the only way to do it with our layout without running gas lines everywhere.

Appreciate your input. I think we’ll go a similar route. Agree about the built in heaters and only using 3-4 months. That the main reason I can’t past the look of them, knowing most of the time it’ll be an eyesore and not using. I like the idea of a movable one and storing somewhere most of the year.

Yeah, the wheels are either rubber or a softer plastic. I was worried about them gouging the deck boards, but the whole thing is fairly light. And in the warm/hot time of the year, I'll just take the propane tank out of it and carry it to the garage. It also had three little metal tabs that were supposed to be screwed to the outside of the base, and you can put a washer and a screw through them into the deck to hold it in place/keep it from tipping over. But since this is in a screened porch, not worried too much about the wind knocking it over, especially with a full propane tank inside of it. I didn't want any unnecessary holes in my deck boards, so I just screwed them into the inside of the base, in case I ever needed them later and I knew I would lose them if I didn't attach them somehow.

We got our first bid on the patio roof. 24x28 gable roof with 4 skylights. Two spots for fans (they will install we just have to purchase), with tongue and groove pine on underside of roof. 56K

I also was thinking of adding a pergola on the side of it for my bbq area. An 18X10 cedar pergola was 12K!

We are working on something almost exactly the same size and adding brick firepit and garage. I am thinking I may have under budgeted for the patio.

Looks great! Wanted to ask about the fireplace framing, is it sitting on the ground or just "floating" like in the picture? I am debating on how to do mine.

Thanks! It is floating, with inside pier footers. Let me know if you want me to take a couple of pictures underneath. Forgot an updated outside pic. I'll add when I get back.

Inside pic has concrete at all post, hard to see and the bricks are just something I threw there to fill a gap where off the ground, not serving any purpose. We will do some landscaping around it and will not appear to be off the ground.

I see now, thank you! What kind of stone is that on the surround? Is it thin brick/stone?

Looks great. My only comment/question is on the hood vent. I don't know how much smoke the BGE puts out, but I would think you'd have more coming off the gas grill. Any reason it was put over the BGE and not the gas grill? Or does the BGE pump out a good bit of smoke too?

Either way, it all looks great. Enjoy.

Great question. The idea was originally to get by with one hood and pull smoke (Hopefully) from gas grill. With everything, plans changed and we are putting another hood over grill and boxing in to appear as one....
