What oil are you guys using for your portable generators. It's a 6500 watt generator driven by 10 hp Briggs.I don't have the manual.TIA

Just curious. Is there an advantage to using rotella oil instead of a 10W-30 synthetic. After the break in period I have always used Mobil 1 full synthetic

Weight as per the manufacturer.

Check their website, you can probably download a new users manual.

this, read into it. not all engines can use synthetic. whatever you choose to use change it often if you are constantly using the generator. a small air cooled engine not moving around created a lot of heat therefore cooking the oil. my uncle's neighbor recommended changing it daily if you were using it 24/7 but that can be overkill. just keep an eye on the color and make sure it is not burning oil.

That's just wasting good oil. If you're generator is sized properly and you aren't running more than 60-75% capacity, changing the oil every 50-60 hours is fine.

I have Briggs & Stratton 5500 w and Honda 2200 w,both the manuals recommend 10w30.I use Mobil 1 synthetic.Hurricane Laura,I ran them both 9 days straight without changing the oil until it was over.I checked the oil every other day and the level didn’t drop. That might be pushing it,in the future I’ll probably change it about every couple of days.

The briggs motor specs either a 0w30 or 5w30 full syn.

Mobil1 0w40 sheers down to a 30w pretty quick and is cheap.

All I run. Change every 24 straight hours of run time. Or every 50 hours stop and go.
