I bought some MSM and have a pertinent question. I've read the information that comes with the product. It is within said information that I learned that I need to use 1 ounce per acre to distribute the MSM. The question I have is what device or piece of equipment do I use tho achieve this "1 ounce per acre"application instruction?
I have a pump up tank sprayer and I have a 15 gallon tank with a 12 volt pump on it which mounts on my 4 wheeler for larger jobs. I don't have whatever is needed to be confident that I am accurately putting out 1 ounce per acre of product. That is SUCH a small amount! What do I need tp get?? Thanks!

May want to also post on the Home/Garden Board. There are couple of guys over there who really know MSM.

It’s a granular herbicide

It looks like white roach turds. At least mine does. It's basically a pinch per gallon.

1/8 teaspoon not ounce. As others stated, it’s granular.

1/8 teaspoon = 0.5 gram of MSM Turf, and that is high application rate for MSM Turf on herbicide label when you covert 1 ounce per acre on the bottle to weight per 1,000 sq ft which is usually used for application rates on residential lawns.

A little digital micro scale for $15 (Amazon) is handy for weighing out fractions of a gram or ounce of herbicide. I use this one.

Do you know the spray rate of the tank? If not take a 2 gallon bucket and spray for a exactly a minute and see how much product you sprayed.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I have a micro scale also so I've done some measuring. 1/8oz=.125 oz on measurement tube that comes with the MSM. I'm aware most probably already know this but I thought it night help someone. I will mix .125 oz of MSM with 2 gal of water and then add 4 tsp of spreader sticker to cover 1000 sq ft. Thanks again guys!

This is incorrect for two reasons

1. The recipe calls for 1/8 of a teaspoon, not 1/8 of an ounce that you are using.

2. The recipe is using fluid/volume ounces (indicated by using a teaspoon to measure) and not weight ounces that you are measuring with a scale.

I did. You can’t weigh fluid/volume ounces as materials have different masses.

One measures weight/mass while the other measures volume

The measuring tube that came with my MSM clearly says “volumetric” on it.

I sprayed MSM on a variety of weeds along a fence (crabgrass, nutsedge, buttonweed, dollarweed, spurge).

It's been a week and I'm not seeing anything happen. No discoloration, no nothing.

Should I reapply?

Not yet. It’s a systemic herbicide - usually takes 2 or 3 weeks, but you should be seeing some effect in another week or so on the buttonweed, dollarweed and spurge. You’ll need different herbicides for the nutsedge (I’d suggest Sedgehammer) and crabgrass (depends on your lawn grass as to your options). Did you add surfactant to the spray solution?

Usually OK to spray again in 4 weeks if necessary - older, tougher weeds oftent require another application, but give the first spray time to work.

Good info. I just sprayed my backyard (that has a ton of buttoneed) with MSM this past weekend. I just set myself a reminder to Reapply in 3.5 weeks from now

I know I missed the springtime window to kill before the buttonweed put our seed. If it works I’ll make sure to apply earlier next year
