Couple questions on pre emergent…

1. Seeded about an acre of Bermuda in June. Am I correct to not put down a pre emergent this year? I have some MSMA that I planned to treat with in May-June of next year. That sound correct?

2. I have another 3 acres of a mix of centipede, carpet, Bermuda, zoysia. It’s all well established. What pre emergent is recommended that would be good for this mix of grasses and is now about the right time?

3. Fungicide — I have a few areas that have gotten brown patch the last couple years. Mostly in the centipede. Last year I treated with Heritage at a pretty high rate in the middle of October. It did virtually nothing. I still had brown patch. I’ve improved some drainage since. Is heritage still recommended as a preventative? Or something else?

Skip the pre em on the newly seeded grass. You don't want any root clubbing and you want it to have its best shot at taking off. You can do a pre em on the established part. Top of the line is going to be Specticle. If not that then I like simazine for the fall pre em.

You need to treat for fungus with two apps done 21 days apart for large patch. Also, the fungicide doesn't turn the lawn green again, it just stops the fungus from progressing. I like propiconazole for grey leaf spot and large patch and Heritage (azoxystrobin) for take all patch.

Are the Specticle and Simazine badass? I have been FIGHTING doveweed/dovetail whatever it is called. An absolute nightmare this year. I think I used prodiamine last year and it was meh.

Specticle is great for doveweed. Up front cost is expensive but you'll use much less post emergent throughout the year.

I was at SiteOne yesterday and they had just re-stocked the 18oz bottle of Specticle Flo that morning.

Sold a kidney and got me one....

Ronk

For the propicanizole, do you recommend 1 oz per 1000 sq ft or 2 oz?

Looks like a 50lb bag is about $160. Max 4.6lbs per 1,000 sq. ft. So I could get about 3.5 applications out of it. So basically a year and a half, right? October/November.....Valentine's Day..... 2025 October/November.

Smallest effective amount. 1oz and then judge how well it worked.

Ronk, can I use 0-0-7 prodiamine on freshly laid St Aug sod?

I'm not ronk, but I would not put pre-emergent down on brand new sod.

Now, if the sod was established for 3+ months, that's a different story.

A lot of the turf community states to wait 1 year before putting pre-emergent down. Personally, I put down Specticle Flo 2 weeks ago on 419 sod that was laid at the beginning of May this year.

Hope that helps...

No.

Directly from the LESCO 0-0-7 Stonewall (Prodiamine) label

Thanks. I got this bag straight from the fertilizer manufacturer's community store in Freeport, so there was nothing like that on the bag. Guess I should've googled prodiamine and looked what other manufacturer instructions were.

That’s a standard recommendation with all pre-emergents as they suppress root growth so wait a few months with sod, recently seeded lawns, plugs. You’ll be good to go next spring.

I am just going to avoid the areas I am laying the 20 pieces of sod and only hit the established stuff.

Ronk/Craw can I tank mix either msm turf or celcius along with spectacle Flo? I have both and was planning to do the post tomorrow then follow up with the spectacle a couple of days later..,,..I am now thinking I need to get the spectacle down asap.

Mostly VBW but various other weeds as well (lespedeza).

Got it down this morning in BR - rained this afternoon.

*achievement unlocked*

After reading this thread I did mix in celcius in hopes of knocking back some of the VBW that’s popped up in the last couple of weeks - hope that doesnt have negative affects.
