wanted to remind yall to make sure you have your pool set to run 24 hours a day while we are below freezing to avoid any issues with the extreme cold. If you have automation, you should have freeze protection, but if you dont, i recommend just running the pumps 24/7

should you loose electricity, you can break a union and drain the pipes or cover them to keep them warm until the electricity comes back or you get above freezing

if you have freeze protection you may not be able to run fountains, water features etc. not sure on hot tub, depends on how it is run i guess.

if you decide to use heat lamps and something like cardboard box over the filter.....be careful and dont use one too hot and melt anything.

hope every one comes out alright

Pour gas in it and watch the blazing pool before us.

I went ahead and cleaned the DE filter but didn’t add more back with the thought that the less particles trapped in the filter the better and faster flow and less likely to freeze. Thoughts?
Would added salt be better or worse for warding off freezing?

What if I just leave the pump off and drain, open pipes?

The harshest freeze where we lost power, I got up at 2AM and went and pulled all drain plugs and turned pool off. Had $0 in damages. Anymore, when it's about to freeze, this is what I do. That was about the worst case scenario freeze. If it works in that weather, then it will work in lighter freezes like this one we are in.

It seems pretty rough on equipment to run 24/7 till the weather decides to cooperate although a day or two isn't going to really kill the equipment.

I usually keep my pool warmed to something like 75-78 during weather like this. I am not sure if it is the best route to go. But it's the only way I know to make sure i have 'warm' water pumping the whole time. I'd hate to lose power overnight and everything freeze b/c I'm sleeping and didn't realize I lost power.

The pump that runs my spa jets froze up. I was able to get it defrosted with a space heater to get it running. Hopefully we are on the downhill side of this crap.
