Plumbing is my Weakness Question

Wife is getting new top for vanity and wants to move sink from one side to other on old vanity that is set up for dual sinks.
Can I connect P Trap pipe to a cleanout or does that have to come off?
Pic below.

You have a threaded clean out under your sink?

not sure what you are asking but
normally dual sinks have one centered drainpipe that they both connect to just like your kitchen sink does. if you want to convert from a single to double sinks all you have to do it mimic how the kitchen sink does it but you will need to use longer pipes and make it yourself keeping a downward slope to the drain lines towards the main drain line.
if you have 2 separate drainpipes, one to each sink, going to 2 separate drainpipes inside the wall, and want to switch to just one sink then there should be no issue capping one off where it goes into the wall and just having one sink on whatever side you want it on connected to the other pipe going into the wall.

I’m not sure your actual set up, but yes if you have a vanity big enough for 2 sinks and you want to have 2 sinks or move one sink from one side to the other then that’s very doable and not terribly complicated.
ETA: just remember that in plumbing water always runs downhill

Yes 2 drains one has clean out other was connected to p trap. Swapping sink to other side so now want to connect to where clean out is, and cap other if that makes sense.

I’m assuming they just put a clean out cap at some point when they removed the 2nd sink? So originally it was designed for 2 sinks and 2 P traps, but one was removed and the line capped. My utility sink has both sinks lines attached together and they go into one p - trap and exit in one pipe. So yes, what you are asking is not a problem at all. Just make sure that ‘clean out’ is connected properly.

My old man once told me that all you need to k ow to be a plumber is that shite flows downhill and payday is on Friday.
That's all I got.

I think I understand what is going on. The second drain that you want to use now was terminated with a cleanout in the past when they removed the second lavatory. Whoever did it used a clean out when most would just have used a cap but they might not have had a cap handy.
There is almost certainly a fitting with a male end that fits the cleanout and a female slip fit end to connect to PVC but if there is enough pipe behind the cleanout I would cut the cleanout off right where it meets the PVC pipe and use a P-trap "kit" with compression fittings. It will save you time and some money as well.

Precisely, about an inch and a half of pipe would be left if I cut off cleanout.

Is the pipe coming from the floor or the wall? Either way, you should be able to cut off the pipe and trim around the cabinet (and sheetrock, if necessary) to glue on a coupler. Or, you could have it drain to the side where your existing sink is, provided there’s enough drop.

1 1/2" id plenty for either slip or compression connections BUT I would not cut the clean out off with pliers type PVC cutters since you will leave at least 3/8" I would use either a PVC saw or a hacksaw blade with some tape wrapped around the end for a handle if you don't have a close quarters hacksaw.
It is likely depending on age 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" pipe. Note if you have to cut it after the trip to Lowes et al PVC is measured by ID so the measurement you get from the outside will be larger than the "size". IIRC 1 1/2" sch 40 is 1.66 inches OD. I would personally get the compression fitting P-trap kit but you may be moving the P-trap with the lavatory so you might need coupling(s), pipe, and dope. Without seeing exactly what you have it is hard to say.

I cut off the old P trap on second pic, first is cleanout where I want to connect sink now.

You neglected to mention the third part, perhaps the most important, which is
“ Dont bite your fingernails”.

Glue two trap adapters back to back one end will screw into the clean out the other connects to the new trap.

Also that black pipe is ABS not pvc and pvc glue will not work with it, you will have to use abs glue and use a black abs cap on it, or use a fernco rubber cap with a clamp.

Got her done, screwed a 1 1/2 Marvel connector to cleanout, then I guess you could call it a 4 inch stub out to 22 degree, to a 1 1/4 marvel to the tail pipe. Sink pipe was short had to use an extension and trim both to fit. has a slight downward angel to sewer line
may not be up to code but is leak free and working.

Good to hear
How did you end up attaching the connector to the ABS cleanout?
