I have the same thing right now. I bought a live-catch trap, but reconsidered when I thought about babies. Mid-summer I plan to either trap whatever is in there or just stop up the hole, if I think it is gone,

I’m going to set my game camera up today
I would use a solar powered outdoor Wi-Fi security camera instead (or one with a long lasting battery) that would instantly send an alarm notification to my phone. If the entry hole is visible from the roof, I would mount the camera on a small board with foam stapled to the bottom and set the camera on the roof slope pointed at the hole. If the entry hole is visible from the ground, I would mount the camera on a T-Post pointed at the hole.
I would set up a ladder that reaches the hole and already devise a way to plug/seal off the hole. Once you have everything set up, first see what animal(s) are entering/exiting the hole. Then wait for the notification on your phone with video clip showing the animal exited, then quickly climb the ladder and seal off the hole. Leave the camera setup so that you can see the animal unsuccessfully trying to reenter the soffit. Then also listen to make sure no other animals are trapped.
I did this to lock a squirrel out once. It worked like a charm. Tools used: Extension ladder, short piece of aluminum angle iron cut to shove into and seal the hole, and a Battery operated WiFi outdoor security camera mounted on a board with foam stapled to the bottom. Put the camera on the roof slope pointed at the entry hole and let the camera keep me notified what the squirrel was doing, so I could lock it out.

Set about 6 battery powered electronic rat repellers in the neighborhood and blast them. Get them from Amazon. Foxpro makes electronic calls that you can load coon calls onto. If it’s a coon, it’s coming out.
Well, it’s a coon….fricking A
Do electronic calls work? I’m ordering coon pee now. I’ve gotta get a bigger trap.
Not a big one at least. I just am shocked there’s 0 sign outside and around my yard. No trash gotten into or anything.
But the hole in my soffit is coon size so that makes sense now
ETA: we pulled a piece of trim off the side of the roof/ soffit and I was on a ladder staring it in the eye about 3 ft away. Not the best moment of my life, lol. I could do that and shoot it but I don’t want it to run where I can’t get it

Absolutely.
They wake up and come out ready to fight.
I dispatch them with. .30 cal air rifle.

Rent an owl and put it in your attic

Raccoons unlike squirrels are excellent mothers so if there’s a nest she ain’t coming out. You might have to hand to hand. Better wear gloves

The coon pee....
The way it was explained or sold to me was that the mother smells the male pee and thinks he will kill her babies, so she vacates and takes them with her.
That stuff is smelly. I put it on tennis balls and threw them around in the attic. I also put a radio up there and played music.
This was a rent house, when the tenant told me it had been quiet for two days, I closed up the two vents it had removed.

They are making the most noise in the mornings, from 6am-10am. Quiet at night as far as I can tell.
Almost assuredly a squirrel. Raccoons and Rats move at night. Squirrels early in the morning.
You need to find where there access is and put an extruder over the entry point. It will let them out but they can’t get back in.

Nothing last night. Have my cell phone game cam up and used some really nice pinfish from the depths of my bait deep freezer and best I can tell it never came out. Which has me concerned it’s birthing or very close or has very little ones. I have no clue how much a coon that has given birth feeds

Can it get deeper into the space or is it boxed in?

Raccoon down! Cell phone cam for the win. I threw 3 old pinfish on my roof as chum along with the couple in my trap. And the cell camera alerted me it was out and it was eating on a pinfish.
ETA: I’m worried she gave birth 1-2 nights ago. I’ve had the camera out and this is the first I’ve seen of her. She came out and was feeding on the pinfish and I took my time and took a shot to the back of her head with my air gun. It wasn’t my preferred way but it worked perfect and was quick for both of us.

The babies will be very small and won't smell for long.
Maybe take the vent off and try to reach them?

Unfortunately she was nesting on the OTHER side of my roof. She basically crawled across my entire roof. I used the infrared camera this morning and I didn't see anything. So I'm hoping maybe she was just preparing. She doesn't look pregnant and her teets didn't have milk as best as I could tell. We'll see
