My back porch has plenty of light. Too much actually, so I am looking for options to hang from the pergola that will be more subtle. Less noticeable the better. Just grab a string from Lowe's or what?

Do you have power or need solar lights?

Does the pergola have lights or just the back yard? If there are lights on the pergola, Have you considered a dimmer switch or want something new lights/ fixture?

Picture a sorta big back porch. About 1/4 is under roof. Pergola is wedged between car port and store room to left, and extension of house to the right. So basically wedged in a U formed by the house. The existing lights are under the porch close to the house then at the ends of the house toward the yard. Currently, no lights on the pergola at all.

Sounds like you just run rope lights around the top of the pergola.

If you wanted to go low voltage, you could do something like this ( the lights on the post)

String lights are way to go. Creates a good vibe and it won't be too bright.

not sure how much light or the look you want but if you put rope lights attached under the edges of the overhang it will give you a nice warm glow without being very bright or attracting bugs
this is what im talking about LINK

Those aren't trashy enough Wick. I'm thinking a string of small bulbs.

They have those at Walmarks

We've taken to calling those "Austin lights", since it appears to be a requirement for every single bar and restaurant in Austin.
That being said, I like them (but the fancier pictures posted above are sexy too.)

LED lights with a dimming switch is the way to go.

You can buy old school looking tear drop light bulbs that are LED. They are a easy 41/2" long. Cost around $8 for just two. Walmart, HD and Lowes sells them. You can make up a stringer set like you want or just buy one made up. Trying to find a three light copper light fixture I made that is mounted above a pot rack which is above a island in my guest house.
Don't know if you can see the fixture.

Believe it or not, harbor freight has the string lights that would be perfect for outdoor entertainment areas.

Would have never thought of that.

Not to hijack your thread, but did you build your pergola? I’ve been trying to talk myself into putting one over my concrete pad that comes off of my screened in porch. I’m not a skilled carpenter, by any means, but I can’t imagine it would be too complex of a build.

Harbor freight string lights link.
I saw them on accident the other day when I was buying a mitre saw. I almost bought them just because they looked cool. They were on a good sale a week ago and they have a bunch of 5star reviews.
