We have a Hunter ceiling fan that the lights stopped turning on. From a little searching it seems the culprit is a bad wattage regulator. The part is obsolete now. It's to make sure you don't exceed 180 watts with the bulbs. Bulbs are led 2.5 W so not a problem. Plenty of people have removed the regulator. There are 4 wires out of the regulator... red : light out, black : live in, white : common, white : neutral.

There's a YT video that isn't real clear to me. The red & black wires are explained. Someone said just connect both white wires to existing bundle of white. Does this make sense?

I kind of enjoy putting in new ceiling fans, and way more than a house fire.

I'd just replace the fan instead of trying to trouble shoot things (and possibly burn down my house)

Have you tried turning it off, then turning it back on? If that does not work, I would just go buy a new fan before I "removed the regulator." Especially if I am questioning whether or not the process makes sense.

Can you just buy a new light kit for the fan. It’s usually not necessary to replace the whole fan just for the lights. Hunter sells all of their fans with and without lights and the light kit is just an add on that is easily DIYed. Or at least that used to be the case.

I may be wrong but I think Hunter fans have a lifetime warranty

They do on the motors, limited lifetime on everything else.

Found a wattage regulator on ebay, used. It's a notorious problem so that won't work.

This worked for me. Turn it off with the wall switch, not with the remote control if the fan has one.

Found a generic replacement on Amazon.

If you only plan on using LED bulbs, then you could bypass this regulator and just wire the light 'hot' wire from the fan directly to the lamp hot(s). The white to the regulator is wired to the light common/neutral.

Thanks for the replies got it going. On another site I mentioned my problem and 1 response made sense to me. Guy said " Just picture wires with a blockage in the middle of the run. If you remove the blockage, just reconnect the wires the way they would run without the blockage." That description got rid of my mental block.

And yes only using led bulbs that I believe are 2.5 watts.
