So I have 2 4ft fluorescent lights at the moment. The issue is during the summer they are pin in the arse turning on due to the humidity and heat.

I’m looking to replace with some LED fixtures and was looking for some recs.

I just went and bought the cheap option from home depot and they worked great. Low heat and tons of light.

You can get LED bulbs from HD or Lowe’s that work with your existing ballast / tombstones so it’s just plug and play or you can do a retrofit and there’s LED bulbs that you remove the ballast entirely and have to replace one sides tombstones. It’s easy.

Did not know that. I'll try just the bulbs and see if that improves the function. But I'm thinking I'll need to change the ballast so that is why I was looking at replacing the whole unit.

Just bypass the ballast. The led bulb fits in the fixture

I just did my garage and walk in closet.

I yanked the ballast and wired one end of the fixture to the ac. Very easy and no need to replace fixture or repaint ceiling.

As mentioned, some bulbs work with the existing ballast. But if the ballast fails you will have problems.

Bought them at Home Depot.

I actually just watched a video on how to disconnect the ballast and connect the existing wires to bypass. May take this on tomorrow.

I’d personally just replace the entire fixtures. It’s not that much more expensive and you get a simple integrated unit.

Only problem is you may not have a box in the ceiling and the electrical/mounting can get more complicated.

I’d definitely bypass the ballasts if you get bulbs. The ballasts were always my problems with fluorescent fixtures.

I put up the Costco or sams ones in my shed (can’t recall which), they are ridiculously bright.

I only had a single screw in bulbs so I bought a screw in plug and still use my switch.

Just buy the LED bulbs (Amazon!) and keep your fixtures. A very simple rewire job. And bypass the ballast—while the ballast for the newer T-8 bulbs don’t hum as much, they still put out some heat.

Put a smaller one in my pantry and agree completely. I will change out my garage ones when these burn out with the bigger version

I recently converted my flourescents to LED in my garage. What a difference it makes.

I used these these to make the conversion. Removed ballast and installed.

Look up my led place. Website online, friends and I have ordered a bunch from there with great results.

Lowe’s has 4’ LED replacements that don’t require you to bypass the ballast. It’s 100% plug and play.

I put one of these from Walmart for $21.84 in my workshop and it's bright as hell. I could not be happier.

I was going to suggest this as well, i was skeptical with them being "task force" brand but they work very very well. Perfect if you don't want to run wire for additional lighting.

I already have two lights so there will be no running wire.

I'm the same, the above light plugs into a grounded outlet, ran the wires across the ceiling to the wall to meet the extension cord. Can't recommend enough.

Rewired everything today. Was not bad at all. Bought some LED lights from Lowes but they were not bright enough. Ordered some retrofit bulbs from Amazon. They will be in Tuesday.
