Bumping this thread since I’m looking into landscape lighting around the pool.
Looks like Volt is the preferred option, but they only come in brass fixtures. I was looking for other options and black fixtures. Home Depot sells Hampton Bay lights that are a little cheaper than Volt and have a few options (black fixtures, color changing). Anybody used the Hampton Bay set with good results? I also like the idea of materials being local and readily available since projects like this always tend to change a little during install.

i bought cheap lights off Amazon and am pleased with the results. Wiring was also cheaper on Amazon IIRC. There's another good landscape lighting thread on here somewhere.

In general, Amazon seems completely plagued by this. I am gonna try Walmart+ because of this.

Have about 12-14 of these in our flower bed - LINK 2pk for $36. I've been happy with them.
Have Kichler flood lights on my Oak trees - LINK
Wiring - LINK
Clips - LINK
We have 2 transformers - one on each side of the walkway. They are either 300 or 400w. Lights were previously all halogen.

So i was just scrolling through the topics on the board, seeing what may interest me as I often do. I see “landscape lighting is rid exp” & I think to myself “frick yeah guy, I agree!…let me see what this guy has to say”. Open it up & was like “oh, somebody bumped my old thread”.

I’ve gone to post in a thread only to realize it’s an old bumper thread and I already posted basically the same thing I was thinking of.

I recently had landscaping put in and they installed a new control box and ran wiring well over 100ft underground and set up lighting for under $1000.
Edit: At least 150ft wiring. 5 spot lights and 6 ground lighting set ups.
Sorry, my mistake, it was $1600. The irrigation was under $1000
that's a good price!

Hue Lily XL is what I have.

So I’ve dabbled around with it but never fully went “all in” on lighting around my house. Started with this 10 light + transformer color changing bullshite on Amazon. Was like $120. Figured the kids would like it. After I get it I see the transformer can’t get wet (shoulda known & returned it right there lol). It lasted about 2 weeks. Bought a 300w and hooked the lights to it. They were cool as hell…for a month. Got condensation in them and bonked out. All 10. ****PSA: DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE COLOR LIGHTS FROM AMAZON**** They’re all the same Chinese bullshite product with a different bullshite company name on
i picked up the ring smart transformer and 200 feet of cable but have hesitated on the fixtures themselves for this reason.
well that and i need to buy that trenching tool to make the job easier. i have a large yard to deal with.
like you i'm hoping whatever i get is designed to last. may pick up some stuff locally at home depot or lowes vs amazon chinese lights.

with the little clips the lights are so easy to change that it made sense to me to buy the amazon lights for less than half the cost, but i didn't have as many to do. i have a couple extra if any of them ever go out, but no complaints so far about a year later.

Don't buy the cheap stuff...it will fail in just a few years!
I am living proof.

I think the Costco Kit is the one on that link under “easy install”
The Costco kit is good, but the transformer is a bit of a pain. I'd get one of the better stainless transformers from Volt directly and then just order the expansion packs from Costco.

Are you talking about the black transformer with the square shaped top? They have another kit with the bigger stainless transformer also.

Yes, the black one. The clamps are a pain in the arse and are not fixed to the transformere. I didn't know they had a package with the good one.

I have 2 relative cheap low voltage sets running 8 lights each (color in front and the other white in he backyard) they been running for about 3 years. I have had to replace one transformer for $55. All in all I have no more that $300 in both sets.
I will say this the better you wire them up the longer the less maintenance is needed as the connections I did while in a hurry had to be redone at a later date.
As cheap as these are I dont mind changing them every few years as long as I can use the existing wiring.

I’m glad to get some feedback because I was trying to decide between the 2 kits. The big one has a couple of lights I don’t need (pathway type) but I do like the transformer better.

At least with pool lighting you have the don't want to risk electrocuting yourself aspect.
