Any advice for a vine problem. The vines are growing through my backyard and onto/underneath my deck, fence, etc. I believe they start from the neighbor behind me. They grow along a wire fence I have on one side of the yard. But I have also seen many vines about size of a power cord thoughout the backyard, just below the dirt. They have small roots every so often so if you kill one part, they can just keep growing further back. They also produce small purple flowers at some point. They grow very fast and attach to anything but love my wooden deck. Anyone experience anything similar and found a solution?

I don't think a massive spraying would work and would just kill all my lawn. I have seen some products where you clip the vine and apply to the end to kill it but that is just not feasible with the number of vines I have.

I had a very similar issue to this with pepper vine at my last house. Previous owners did nothing to control it. I did my best to find the source(s). I cut them as low as I could then sprayed the fresh cuts with roundup. I watched for sprouts in the yards and pulled as much as I could. Some of it came up like rope and the length was truly impressive. Those I could not pull, I sprayed with roundup knowing I would lose some grass. My St. Aug back there was pretty aggressive, so it came back quickly. This took 3 summers or so, but eventually had zero pepper vine.

I cut the stems and applied a mixture of diesel, some herbicide and salt and it worked almost immediately. They haven't been back for going on 3-4 years now.

Same situation @ the neighbor - didn't control them and they came through (and over) my fence.

Triclopyr but you need to cut the vine and paint it on the cut like you said.

Triclopyr will work on vines but it takes time. can be a very slow process.

Look up "Bush Killer Vine" and see if that is what your problem is. If so, it is almost impossible to eradicate since it doesn't take much of a piece of it to start growing again. I've fought that stuff for over 20 years when it got a foothold on a vacant property near me and totally overtook a 4 ft. tall chain link fence along an adjacent property line.

I've sprayed it, cut and dug it up, pulled it up and it just keeps coming back but I do stay on top of it as much as I can so it doesn't totally take over my yard.

Spray it with Craig Harper cocktail.

That sounds like kudzu.

Nothing will "kill" it without some serious dedication.

It's takes years to kill it. You can control it with triclopyr and it will eventually kill it but it will take several years for it to finally die.

ETA: I have it at a few places at my farm in MS and I'm on year 3 of trying to control it.

Go to Randylemmon.com and search for “the baggie method”. Yes, the late Randy Lemmon. And if you’ve had the herbicide for a few years, buy a new bottle. For example, a 4-5 year old bottle of Triclopyr is ineffective.

Cut biggest main line you can find and cover cut with drops of roundup concentrate (not mixed). Done. Works on huge vines of poison Ivy. Best to do it in winter.

Vines are bad, real bad.....and most weedkillers dont hurt them/

Gotta keep cutting them back and find the roots.
