A neighbor has several outside cats. They roam the streets and constantly poop and pee in my front yard and flowerbeds. It smells! How do I keep these cats off my lawn?

Order some coyote urine from a trapping supply store. Coyotes kill cats and cats are deathly afraid of them.

Trap 'em with cat food as bait...one at a time, then haul 'em away. You can drop 'em off in Vacherie.

Red cayenne pepper sprinkled strategically worked for me. I always to get one of those motion water sprinklers though just for the shits and giggles.

I have extensive experience with this issue since my neighbor is a colony owner in Jefferson parish and it drives me nuts. I have tried every little trick you can find (moth balls, pepper, motion sprinklers, dog, animal urine, etc). None of if worked long term. Cats are nocturnal and cause all your problems at night when it’s hard to stop it.

I would Atleast try to talk to your neighbor and ask them to put them inside or find some other amicable solution like an enclosed cat condo in their yard. I tried that with my neighbor and unfortunately she was unwilling to do much about my frustration to stop all the mess.

Trust me when I say the only thing that worked was a trap and tuna. Trap them and set them free somewhere else. This is the only long term solution that will work. Be smart about trapping too because if they manage to get out the trap before the door closes, they won’t go back and you’ll have wait a while to try again. Cover the trap and put it in a poor lit corner so the cat feels safe going in to eat.

Also, Don’t return them to a parish animal shelter either because they will confirm the cat is fixed and document your address so they can bring it right back to your neighborhood.

Good luck

Sounds like you can cut out the middle-man and just get a coyote.

Thanks for all the replies! We have put cayenne pepper in the yard for now. Trying to find a way to talk to the neighbor without it being awkward. She is an unfriendly, elderly lady.

A pellet gun will make a good dent in them

Have you ever seen a squirrel try to claw its eyes out after someone put cayenne pepper out to deter cats? It's horrible.

The only humane answer is get a dog. Cats avoid yards with dogs.

Coffee grinds

It keeps them out.

Less fun than sling shot though.

We should treat cats like the invasive species that they are. If you have a pet and keep it inside, fine. If you let it roam all over destroying native wildlife and messing with other peoples property dispatch them.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that’s not the case. Not only do they still come in my yard but they do it at night when my dog is asleep inside. They also enjoy shitting in my yard during that time too. Dogs are only an answer to this problem when they live outside. I hear too many people make this excuse when they don’t see it for themselves.

This also doesn’t even account for front yards where dogs normally don’t roam.

I also agree that the parish treats cats with some kind of immunity just because they don’t bite. The parish put out signs that dog feces is a health hazard and it should be picked up but don’t have a problem with cats crapping everywhere. I’ve made this argument to top officials int he parish and it falls on deaf ears because they don’t want to euthanize cats for some unknown reason. It’s mind boggling
