I always find the]at WD-40 works well for that kind of thing. I also have heard that hand-sanitizer gel works well.

Main ingredient of hand sanitizer is isopropyl alcohol, so that makes sense.

Turpentine, does an excellent job against sap, tar, and adhesives. Washes off a little easier than petroleum-based solvents. Petroleum-based solvents also work well too, naphtha, mineral spirits, paint thinner, etc. Brush cleaner also works very well but don't use it on anything but glass and unpainted metal.
