how much do these normally cost to get and have planted? Is Cleggs a good place to look or is there a better source for larger trees?

edit: in the Baton Rouge area

You want a tree farm.

Everything is going to vary depending on the type of oak but they usually sell by trunk size (caliper) not height for the size tree you are looking for. Picking the place is tricky because you are better off buying directly from the tree farm that has the tree you want then buying from a nursery, the price goes up extremely fast with middlemen and moving trees. Trees over a certain size also just don't transplant well so there is always a risk there. Smaller trees do much better but a 20ft should be fine.

That's interesting. Are there any decent tree farms in the Baton Rouge area? I'm doing some googling and so far its Christmas Tree farms.

That’s a big tree. Check out forest hills. You will be looking at 50-65 gallon.

I have a tree farm and sell 3 gallons for $12 up to 15 gallon for $75. You can make them grow fast with a little work.

Try Ducote’s Tree Farm on Hwy 1 going toward False River. Price is based on size, obviously. They show up and it’s instant tree.

Same here. I planted a 6' tall pin oak in my back yard which is supposed to be a fast growing oak, and it didn't grow for around 3 years and then, it grew about 1ft in year 4 and then in the past year and a half it grew around 3 feet.

If I could get the next tree I buy to 20' in 5 years I think that would be good nuff.

Break the roots up real well. Use jobes tree fertilizer spikes. I break them in pieces and put 6-8 around the tree every 3 months. I also throw a couple handfuls of triple 13 around each tree. I also prune each tree every year. Try to focus on getting the crown full more than the height.

Not for an 18-20 ft tree. That is going to be 3-4" caliper. Take a 20' trailer to forest hill and make sure you have something to wrap it to protect it from the wind. Call a few places before you go and see who has what you want. They were around $500 a piece when we bought 3 for our house a few years ago. Next problem will be having something to dig the hole and put the tree in place.

You’re not moving a tree that size without some machinery

There is a place on Hwy 1 just north of 190 that have trees that size, not sure if they sell to public or not.
