Home Surveillance Price? Am I being overcharged?

We have a Surveillance system that quit working about a year ago. Worker came out and said our nvr is broke and two cameras lost their night vision so those cameras need to be replaced. So we decided to just replace everything. Sales guy comes out the next day and then emails us a price for one NVR and 6 new cameras for $3,900.00.
This seems a bit much. Our old cameras are 6 years old and currently hooked up to cat 5 cables. Everything is already wired.
Is this guy trying to rip me off or is this a reasonable quote?

yes, by a lot
there are huge upgrades in surveillance tech and cameras, they are now wifi and dont need wires, just get some prices and ask a lot of questions.
most systems dont need monitoring any more, they auto call your phone when they detect something is going on so you can ignore it if its the kids or you can call the police
anything requiring service and monitoring today is a scam

That seems crazy... I think I paid around $500 for my complete Lorex system and installed it myself. If you already have Cat5 run, this would be a 2 hours job tops.

I’ll watch your family for free.

You can get a reolink system from Amazon for under $700 with more camera. If you already have wire run, it is just plug and play and you can stream

I have eufy cams on some of my properties and they work great
I paid less than $200 each
They send alerts to my phone when they detect something and they’re fairly customizable

Seems high, but there are sone cameras that are better than others.
Doubtful, but possible, the guy may be planning on installing high end cameras and or high end NVR.

Frick that. Just swap it out yourself. I have Amcrest. It's been pretty solid.

Definitely seems high. If the wires are already run, it is a plug and play change. Would take you an hour at the most to change out 6 cameras.
Here is a high quality NVR with 8 4k cameras for under $1000 - LINK . I've had a 16 camera montavue system for 5+ years. Only maintenance has been to replace the hard drive after about 4 years. There are other brands as well that should be in the same ball park. You could find nicer or cheaper systems as well, but they'll be nowhere near $3900 unless you're getting some massive pan/tilt/zoom cameras.

Home Surveillance
Find someone with a Boxer and another with a Rottweiler.
Breed then profit. Mine is the best guard dog I could ever ask for. Absolute trust with the kids but Lord help us if someone steps foot in the driveway and it is nap time
But really, if the CAT lines are already ran, just replace them yourself. It will be much cheaper and not hard at all.
