Lennox are the best units
I had a terrible experience with them at my old house which was brand new construction. Had 15 service calls in 3+ years with their authorized service company. Replaced the condenser coil and evaporator coil on the unit over that time frame and it still gave me issues. Literally a month before selling the house, my claims that had already been rejected and were over a year old made it to their regional managers desk. He contacted me and offered to cover future parts, etc but it was too little too late.

Family in the HVAC business. For what you pay Goodman is decent middle low tier system. You can buy about 3-4 Goodman units for 1 Trane unit. Will last you 10 years.
I have Goodman and no problems. Two 3.5 tons and 7 years old.
Once your system hits 10 years old, they not gonna send repair man out but a salesman anyway.
Goodman is about $2500 and Trane is $9K

My current Goodman is 30 years old
It's definitely getting replaced this spring, but I'll gladly buy another one of those.

Recently bought a Carrier 5 ton single stage 16 seer. Extremely happy with it.

I would get at least half ton more that what you need, just my two cents.
Be careful doing this or you will be miserable for 8 months (10 in Louisiana) in a humid house so your house is cold in the hottest week or two.

Rheem, Trane or Goodman. 16 SEER2 single stage. As already noted, the equipment performance is only as good as the system installation.

Trane, Rheem, Rudd, are all great units. I’ve had a Goodman installed at my old house. No problems, you might check American Standard, at one time they said one of the better for the money.
If you live in the BTR area, I have a A/C guy.
As for the 90’s house, check attic insulation, stairway tent.

I like Ruud units. If I had to do it again, I'd get the 2 stage system.
On my next system, I am actually considering doing a mini=split system for my house. It's on the smaller side, but the life expectancy of the mini split systems appears to be mo betta and I like the thought of controlling individual zones separately.
