My normal guy's price is getting too expensive.

Anyone have any recommendations?

The price of all HVAC refrigerants, particularly the older refrigerants that have been phased out, or in the process of being phased out, by the Federal gov’t - i.e., R-22 (Freon), R-410A (Puron) are out of sight. You can call around but don’t be surprised if your “normal” guy is the cheapest of all.

That stuff is insanely expensive now, and they ban every type that comes out a year after it's introduced it seems like

It's time to dress up like indians and throw some ac units off some ships.

You first, and in July.

I would go for availability over affordability at this juncture

Call local AC people. Tell them your system needs a maintenance visit. Back in the day, if you hinted right, and assured them you’d buy a new system from them when the time came, some reclaimed Freon would make its way into your system. They aren’t allowed to sell the reclaimed stuff.

Problem is that now they usually don’t have the same stockpile of reclaimed stuff anymore like they used to.

I’ve been very happy with SEC heating and cooling.

I hate to say this, but prepare to buy anew AC. Better to buy one now, if you need it than in August.

My recommendation is to find the leak and repair it.

It's a rip off. I have an epa license and can get a whole drum of 410. But didn't want to buy the equipment to charge so I paid a guy. . For the freon and stop leak it was $1000.

Worked for a year then stopped again. So I got my hands on a compressor that was a return but but installed for $450. Installed it charged it for $380 and had a new compressor with green fire less than $1000. I should just do hvac. But I hate working outside and appliances are easy.

If this hasn’t been mentioned- if you are Adding Freon or coolant you unfortunately have a leak.
And depending on the last time you added Freon you are Just pissing away money.
