Help with buying a zero turn

I need a riding mower and looking at a 42-54 inch deck ZTR. I don't want a big box model, I'm looking for light commercial for the better components and quality. What kind of discount can I expect buying a new mower in the remaining months of this year? I suspect they will offer extended warranties and maintenance plans that I usually skip on cars, but is it worth purchasing for these mowers? Any brands to stay away from these days?

First thing I would do is go to your closest Alabama State Park and see what mowers they use, because I can guarantee they have high hours.

IMO, Grasshopper is the best zero turn on the market. You go look at a Grasshopper and you notice pretty quickly that they are just built different. No plastic all over the place or tiny/cheap knobs and levers. Just solid metal/aluminum everywhere down to every last detail. But they are expensive. But relatively not that much more for how nice of a mower you get.
When my mom passed I took her Toro and gave my brother my Grasshopper and man I wish I would have let him have the Toro. I don't really have any complaints with the Toro, but the Grasshopper is just a superior mower.
I've never purchased an extended warranty on one but I would just make sure you buy it from a shop and not a big box store like Lowes or Home Depot. Having to get your mower worked on through the big box stores is a pain in the arse.

I bought a Kubota Kommander series 48” zero turn eight years ago. Other than minor issues with sensors, mostly safety features, it has been a fine machine. Regular maintenance always performed and belts and blades changed as needed, of course.

Purchased a used eXmark zero turn last year (48" deck). It works great! Very pleased.

I have a 1 acre lot and spring (March-April)was a good time for me to buy a 50" Toro from a local dealer. Got $800 off a zero turn with MyRide suspension, which has eliminated the jarring on my injured hips and back.
Toro offers an extended warranty and a service plan with dealer pickup within 25 miles - both of which I did not get.
A dealer is the way to go because I did not experience hard sell of oil, filters, belt, etc. and they stated what and how to service along with the intervals. They also delivered it.
In short, spring was a good time to buy and do so from a dealer.
The Toro has met my needs and I'm totally satisfied with the purchase.

Badboy Maverick HD is an entry-level commercial mower. Have one - love it! Multiple service shop nearby too.

I bought the toro 54 my ride as well 3 years ago to cut 2 acres. Works great. A place in downtownish BR is a dealer and has residential to commercial models. All still in crates and sealed.

I mow about 2 acres and I have a Hustler Raptor 42 in deck and it's been great. Got it at Gautreauxs in Gonzales. They sell a ton of the Hustler brand. Very pleased and reasonably priced

How big of a property are you mowing? I have 2.5 acres, and my land is rather bumpy in areas. My next ZT will have some amount of suspension. I'm getting too old to get bounced around for 2 or 3 hours riding the damn thing.
As far as discounts or anything, I imagine that would be determined by how hungry the shop is for business. I think the Kawasaki motor is still the "premium" motor in several ZT brands. That's what I have and I've had 0 issues with the motor. I'm on year 10 and all I've done is normal maintenance. And the maintenance plan would be more of a hassle than benefit to me. It takes me an hour to do an entire maintenance so I personally wouldn't buy the maintenance plan, but I suppose that is all subjective.

Flat or hilly property?
I have about 3-4 acres and went with the Scag 2 years ago 54* Tiger cat II Kawasaki motor. Changing blades and oil changes are simple. Its a beast and hauls arse when I am in a hurry.

I mow around 8 acres with a Scag Patriot 52" with the Kawasaki motor. I purchased it used and was 4 yrs old and have used it for 5 years. So 9 yrs old. I've replaced the starter and the pto switch, that's it. Oh and of course the oil before the start of every season. Should probably make it twice during the season, but I'm lazy.

I have a 2005 52” Scag Turf Tiger with the Kohler engine. Bought from a friend that had it for 4 years in a commercial setting. Ive had it for the last 15 years. I’ve changed 2 belts and the rear engine seal besides general maintenance in that time period. Blade changes and maintenance are easy to perform. I would highly recommend. I’m mowing an acre.

I bought a 50 inch quest model from Exmark, it has been flawless, mows great, never an issue, it is about 4 years old and just changed the battery. Change fluids each year, but it is a breeze. Did bend a blade on a cypress knee. I mow 1.15 acres weekly. If I had more than 2 I would definitely want something nicer with more suspension.
