i've lived in my house for five years. we have a beautiful backyard with a big tiled deck that is virtually unusable in the summer because it's just too hot. finally bit the bullet and decided to get it covered. getting a 23'x20' cover built next week and i am super stoked.

just really excited and wanted to tell someone about it.

What materials did you end up going with?

I’m planning a similar project myself.

Nice! Always exciting to get more usable outside space. If you’re in Texas and not close to Houston or Louisiana, consider a high pressure mist system. It can be achieved way more economically than most people believe and can chill things down well over 20 degrees when the dew points are down. I might write up my lessons learned in the next week or so.

douglas fir / western red cedar according to their website and proposal. standing seam metal roofing. i have been looking forward to having a space like this in my backyard for years, across multiple homes. finally doing it!

Adds a ton of value to a home in my experience. We have a sunroom with an attached screened in porch and uncovered patio with fire pit, etc., so we have all 3 "outdoor" options and we fell in love with that when looking to buy a home. It was the reason I was comfortable over paying a bit.

Looks good! I've always wondered what sort of insurance and warranty implications connecting a patio roof to your existing roof has. I've thought about making part of my open patio covered just over the grill setup, but I'd have to do that I think.

That's gonna be awesome.

Glad you posted this, I've been trying to figure out how to do one on my back patio for a while. The eave of the house is too low to tie in so I was wondering If I could have the house edge floating above the roof with a gutter to keep most of the rain off. Looks like they do exactly that with a few of their styles. Not sure I'd want to attach it to my house by myself but I'll try to figure something out.

i went back and forth with this for a long time, because we have the same issue with the low eaves. i thoguht for sure it was goign to take extensive demo and re-build to get a decent looking patio cover, and i had actually pretty much decided to go with a free standing cover. when these guys came out and explained how they do it with the risers and the floating beam i was like, oh man, that's perfect for our space.

I think mine is narrow enough to where I can sink a 2x6 on each side and have a beam supporting everything without tying in to the roof. Not sure I'd like how it looks, though. The house looks section 8 anyways because we are poor so I probably shouldn't worry about that much. The plan has always been to use it as a rental property when we finally upgrade.

pretty cool how they deal with the low eves and attach to the roof. Always an issue with adding a cover. Looks the they use something similar to a pipe vent boot to waterproof the anchoring system to the home. clever
