Garage door openers Bluetooth/wifi

Looking to convert our garage door openers so we can control them on an app. Anyone do this? Is so what did you use?

I just installed the Genie units. They have all those features. I like having the cell to control the doors instead of the remotes. Remotes are too easy to steal from inside the car, but the Genie remote is a small fob type and can be carried on your key ring, although with the vehicle fob it will make your key ring rather bulky.

You can purchase a MyQ add on. It’s a simple setup.

Is this not a subscription any longer?

I have two garage door openers- Chamberlain/Lift Master brands that work with the MyQ app.
The older opener has the early MyQ set up, with an Ethernet hub that communicates wirelessly to the opener.
The newer opener in my second garage operates in the newer MyQ wireless set up.
I like the MyQ App push notifications of door activities. Also can program for automatic close/open based on time.

Meross makes a cheap but useful one.

I bought a MyQ unit to add on to mine but never put it on. I should do that. Not sure how hard it is.

You don’t have to get the subscription. All the subscription does is allow you to give access to delivery drivers

good to know because I wouldn't do that anyway

fyi i bought a non-name chinese wifi garage door controller off amazon for $20 and it will work on *ANY* garage controller because unlike that shite myq and other crap that is overly engineered; it splices into the 2 wires coming from the 'doorbell' into the motor to turn on/off so it bypasses all the 'learning mode' bullshite or 'is my door compatible?' shite. its 1 or 0.
installation couldn't be any easier.
it works w/ alexa, but i used the app to set it to auto-close after 25 minutes so i know its closed if we forget.
ETA - started out with a myQ at the house i lived at 8 years ago, then got pissed w/ the subscdription model and the bullshite fees to use that IoT website (that site died so hard i don't even remember what it was called now lol) so i gave it to my FiL then purchased 2 zwave+ units for my last house with 2 garage doors and while VERY flexible i tinkered around in hubtitat way too much. when we moved to our new house last may i said 'frick it' and went with cheap/easy/good-enough and got the little unit off amazon.

Just installed new garage door that uses MyQ. Really convenient and easy to setup, camera use is also good.

Paid $15 for a myq. No subscription. Unfortunately my opener crapped out right after and the new opener has it built in.

I got the cheap Meross one that works with HomeKit. Easy install and works flawlessly

We love our MyQ. Love getting notifications that the door is open/closed because some mornings I’m half asleep when I leave and don’t remember if I closed it or not. I also can let guests in the house that way if they arrive while I’m still at work. I just open the garage from my phone and they can come in. I don’t have to leave a key out.

If using Apple CarPlay, it should pop up on your “Split View” when you’re close to home. Mine quit responding with the most recent beta update, though (iOS beta, not meross). I don’t know why I think that feature is so neat.

Check your privacy/location settings. Make sure Siri, maps, Home are all turned on

I’ll rephrase- the button pops up based on location just fine. It is “dead” and doesn’t work on the CarPlay screen. Works fine in HomeKit, native app, through Siri, notifies me when door is opened or closed just fine. There is an in-CarPlay malfunction that has been there at least a week (as sort of mentioned- it’s not really THAT useful. I still have a clicker. Sometimes my wife leaves the door open. But it’s something that just is cool. I don’t know why I like it. I just do.)

Saw this thread this morning, I’ve got a new myQ compatible opener for my main garage but still an old one for my boat port. Bought the 30 dollar chamberlain sensor off Amazon and just installed it, took about 10 min and worked seamlessly with my old over head door motor.
