Has anyone had a lot of experience with these? I planted some 4 years ago and they have done nothing until this year. They are about to explode with blooms. I have some that I planted 2 years ago, which have done nothing and appear to not be doing anything this year. Do these things just take time to mature or am I doing something wrong? I also have some regular azaleas that I planted a few months ago, and they have so many blooms that I can't see any leaves.

Aside from them blooming more frequently than typical azaleas, I find them rather disappointing. I want to like them but I just can't. lol

Can you even buy non encore azaleas anymore? It seems harder to find.

absolutely

a new variety of indica i found was Dixie Beauty. They are a darker pink almost purple color

GG Gerbing is one of my favorites

People just like the Encore's because they don't grow as large

another bulletproof azalea i like is Conversation Piece and Fashion azalea

formosa or gerbing will do that but they will take time. you likely won't find any bigger commercially than a 7gal

Encores need maintenance to stay looking good. Cut them back hard, like a Knock Out Rose, and fertilize often.

Only azaleas I have in my landscape - really happy with both of them. Interestingly, the conservation piece azaleas I’ve planted (3 years ago) have their most intense and extended blooms in fall, not spring. Don’t know if that is normal or not - didn’t read that in the literature.

Very disappointed in them as a whole. I have had them for 4 years and they just seem poor. Partly my fault maybe, but other unknown Azaleas in my yard thrive.

We have several encores in our front beds - autumn twist and something else. They have gotten better as they have gotten older. Last year (year 3) was the first time we got three good blooms out of them. They are starting to bloom now and look good, but will probably need some pruning after this first bloom - getting leggy as someone said.

We moved a couple of Pride of Mobiles from my mom's house about 4 years ago, and they bloom really well. My mom had a few that got to be 6 or 7 feet tall, but these have not grown as much.
