Dryer Heating Element Went Out...

Any appliance experts here? Are OEM parts really "better" than Amazon? Just wondering if I should buy a $30 replacement off Amazon or pay the Samsung OEM price (which is about 3 times more).
It is just a piece of coiled wire and I am sure all of it is made in China, whether official Samsung parts or not.

I may be a sucker but I would pay the extra $60 based on my experience with non-OEM car parts. I have never had a premature failure with a OEM car part but have had them with non-OEM parts when OEM was out of stock... I will go somewhere else or wait now.

Save the cash and buy from third party. It’s always worked well for me when needing appliance parts.

I buy OEM parts on Amazon. I bought non-OEM rollers for my dryer. They disintegrated and smelled like burnt rubber. Lesson learned. I do shop around once I get the part number.

I replace mine with a cheap China part from Amazon every 9 months. I have it down to a science and can do it in about a half hour. frick you Samsung and your POS washer and dryer.

I had a really bad experience with LG front loaders too. I tossed the washer a few years ago and bought a Speed Queen. Put the dryer on the curb a few weeks ago and replaced it as well. Never again.

Did you go Speed Queen with the dryer too?
OP- I would go OEM.

Yep. We've liked the washer for the 2-3 years we've had it, so we bought the dryer too. They are a little expensive, but I'll gladly pay it if they are less headache.

For the OP, I assume you've tested all the various high and low temp t-stats and fuses that will keep it from heating, as well as the element itself? I just replaced a high temp sensor on my M-I-L's dryer 2 days ago. bought the kit off Amazon for $15 with 3 stats and 1 fuse. as opposed to $40 for just one OEM sensor.

Had the same problem with Samsung dryer. Replaced the element with an Amazon one and it worked for about 6 months. Replaced again with an Amazon one and it lasted about 9 months. Tossed the dryer out after that. I will not purchase any Samsung appliances. Had issues with the washer, dryer and of course fridge.

It’s not unusual to get counterfeit OEM parts from Amazon. I stopped buying OEM auto parts from Amazon after getting some shitty fake parts in what looked like OEM packaging.

I usually look at the ratings of the seller to decide those things. Heating elements are fairly simple but the issue with knockoffs is usually quality control so you may get something with cracks in the insulated parts, etc that create problems for you down the road.
FOr 1/3rd of the price, it is probably worth the risk if the replacement is not a major chore.

Normally I'm a OEM only person but in this case the chinese may be as good as the samsung garbage. I'd give it a try once.
As far as amazon, I will only buy oem from there if its not a third party seller.

I get the generic elements on Amazon and replace every 18 months or so. It’s an old 90s dryer that I keep alive.

I have a Whirlpool dryer. I buy the cheap elements off Amazon that come with the thermal fuses and thermostats. I've had some last 2 years or so. Some much less. For the money difference I'll replace them more often.

OK, so an update.
I bought the Chinese knock-off element from Amazon. It came with the heating coil and a few thermostats/fuses. I checked the continuity of the sensors already in the dryer and they checked out good, so I didn't replace them. I just replaced the heating coil and will keep the sensors in a drawer if I ever need them. I'd rather run the OEM sensors as long as they work because I am sure Chyna sensors could be funky.
My dryer is back to working like new. If I have to do this every 1 or 2 years, I guess that's fine. If I knew the OEM element would last as long as the original, I would go that route, but there's no guarantee. So back alley Chinese parts it will be.

I replaced two heating elements with cheap ones off amazon. Of course it went out again over the holidays and didn't want to wait on amazon so ran to the parts place. He told me it's pretty standard for the cheap ones to only give you a year if you're lucky. He said go with the OEM and it will last 5 years. it was 3 times the price ($50) but if he is right, its well worth the time savings.
