Didnt know if i would get better response here or the Outdoor Board. But you at home welders, I want to get a tank for my mig. Is there a place locally (BR) that does swaps if you have your own tank. I hear they make most their money on tank rentals and i wont use it a ton and dont want to "rent"
What d yall do for your argon?

Go to one of the stores and buy a tank. They will usually give you the first fill for free, or at least they did with me. Sometimes you can find a deal on a decent used bottle on craigslist or marketplace. Just a FYI, the gas has gone up alot in the past few years.

Some Tracker Supply stores have them as well. Like others have said though, the cheapest long term way is to find a used on on facebook marketplace. and get it filled. You just have to ensure it has the correct stamps on it. I called Airgas and thats what they told me.

Airgas. Buy a bottle, definitely worth it.
I get 75/25 for steel and 100% AR for aluminum. You can do 99% of what needs doing with a bottle of each.
Eta: if you're planning on torching stuff, get an O2 bottle as well, a set of hoses/gages/tips for oxy/propane cutting. Propane cuts great, is far safer than acetylene, and it's one less bottle you need to deal with.

I'm in Texas, but my local steel supply house exchanges shielding gas. When you start to look into the tank swap and lease models, AirGax/PraxAir are the companies that came up with that racket. If they had their way, every tank would be a rental unit and nobody would own their own tank. I try to avoid buying shielding gas from them if at all possible.

Oxy/acetalene air gas. Gas and supply for shielding gas.

See if you have a hydro-static testing shop near you. That is where i bought my bottles freshly certified.
