What’s the standard expectation when working with installation companies? New house and haven’t ever put up lights. Do I buy separately or get the company to get them and they bake it into the cost?

What’s typical cost to have them strung? Two story house.

We are paying $1,200 the first year which includes the installer buying the lights but they are ours. Installation only will run about $400 after this first year. The house is 1 story with dormers and on a corner so we are lighting 3 sides. LED lights. We have to store them though.

Call around and get a couple of prices.

We first did this 3 years ago and got the first quote from a company that is always in our neighborhood. Got a second price from a smaller company and it was about 2/3 of the price. They cut the strings custom for your design and take them down in January. Then they come back usually in November and put the same lights back up, and replace bulbs as needed. Usually the first year is more expensive in order to get everything measured and cut.

Yeah, my exact thought. Times sure have changed.

I've actually got a neighbor who has 2 dogs and a postage stamp size back and front yard who hires people to come by to pick up the dog crap and cut his grass.

Thing is, I gave him a mower a few years back that was still good when I bought a new one for myself and he still has it, and it still runs.

Of course. Do you think the owners of all those mansions on Highland hang their own lights and garland?

Hell, the ones with full time groundskeepers don’t even trust the groundskeeper to do it because they want it designed and installed by a professional.

You might get better answers if you state where you live and how much you want lit.

That's strange you have to store them. My folks paid about the same amount, but the company stored and maintained them.

Blows my mind. It’s a few beer hours during usually decent weather and at a time of year that I could use a break from family time. Unless it’s one of those obnoxious computerized light show with sound/music i guess I’m just not that level.

I've never hired someone for this either, but I'm considering it. My house has 12' ceilings and a steep roof. frick that. I've been decorating my yard only, but I'd like something done on the house. I have gables which are well over 20' high at the peak. I'm' not buying/storing a ladder for that and I'm not going to hang them by laying over the roof edge.

Yep, that’s the scenario I played in my mind earlier that would make me contemplate hiring a light hanger.

Our lawn guy installs ours. We supply the lights, cords, and timers. $200 cash for a two story home, two large gables and approximately 60ft of flat line.

Same. To me, the best part is getting drunk, untangling lights that mysteriously morphed into a ball of spaghetti while stored in the attic (when I know I saved them perfectly rolled) then finally deciding "we need more" and making a trip to the store the next day to reload.

Then repeating the process half a dozen times.

Every year I feel like just when Im happy with the layout, its time to take them down.

If he wants to make $300-$400 extra send me his contact info. (therant2003 at gmail)
We have a two story home. I’ve always put lights on the apex of the roof but it’s pretty steep for me now.
