My front yard for the most part is not showing a lot in the way of blade growth. Mostly when I mow I’m just cutting off the seed heads. I’m mowing at 2.25. My back yard has areas that are the same but some that are thick grass. I’ve maxed out on nitrogen for the year with two apps of milo. I’m rethinking that program. Should I have gone with a 15-0-15 synthetic in early May and then milo now? I know forcing growth in centipede is a no no but shite I’d like some grass to mow lol.

Hot and dry tends to make centipede do that in my history.

Thanks that makes sense. We were in a drought until a few weeks ago. I tried to water but I doubt it was enough.

No sprinkler system? If you are getting seed heads it’s too long most likely. Try cutting it shorter and water it

No sprinkler. But I’m working from home during rona fest and if we haven’t had rain in a week I’ve been pretty religious dragging the sprinkler around at 5am. There was a two month stretch where I watered a lot but I doubt I ever got close to an inch per 1k a week.

I tried to cut shorter Earlier this year but ran into some scalping issues. I plan on leveling next year and trying to get the cut down a little.

We’re finally getting some decent rains down here so maybe that will help.

I’ll try to cut more frequently and see if that will help.

I think you are doing too much. Check the fertilizer recommendation from your local ag school and verify your cutting height.

Centipede likes nutrient deficient soil and very little nitrogen. It doesnt grow high.

I have palisades zoysia in my front yard and it looks so much better than the centipede that I have. You can mow with a rotary but I used a push reel mower the last time I mowed and it looks even better. I have to sharpen my blades frequently on my JD rider so it doesn’t shred the grass blade.
