How good is the Rainpoint on Amazon?
Is a WiFi option really that beneficial? Seems like overkill?

I’ve enjoyed my Meross smart sprinkler this year but can’t say it was some tremendous value.

I have a Rachio and it’s been pretty flawless.
We’ve had it for several years and would highly recommend it

OP, not sure where you live or how big your lot is, how shaded it is, etc. but a smart sprinkler (wifi to pull weather, winds, etc.) saved me $200 a month during a decade of summers in a Houston suburb. I started with a Rachio, but installed a Wyze unit in the house I'm in now, which was much cheaper. Everyone else is watering the day after we get two inches of rain, or when a tropical depression is coming through later this week, I'm not, and I don't have to touch it.

Wifi lets you do things like factor weather into your watering schedule, run your system over the internet, and control it from your phone.
If you are really into Internet of Things (IoT), Open Sprinkler is an option LINK I've been using one for 8 years.
Possibly more important than what controller are the valves. Rainbird makes some nice consumer-grade 24V AC ones that many controllers can run and are easy to overhaul. Making your own manifold just takes PVC, fittings, glue and time.

I have a Bhyve and love it. Is it overkill? sometimes, but nothing better than being able to water lawn and flowerbeds while on vacation.

I switched from Rainbird to Rachio a week ago. Rachio definitely waters a lot less than what I was doing with my Rainbird. So far no complaints. Just curious if it's automated schedule actually suits my needs.
