I bought a new Hustler zero turn earlier this year and I love it. I can cut the grass in no time and I would almost call it fun. With my military discount it cost less than 2k. Due to the size of my gates I had to get the 34" but the 42" is only $100 more.
Hustler zero turn
edit: and because it was so cheap I paid straight cash homie, screw financing

No
A riding mower can easily handle it.
The question is how much time you want to spend cutting your grass.
If you have a lot of trees or tight spaces a zero turn would cut down the time you are cutting the grass.
A good lawn tractor Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Craftsman 200 series lawn tractors can easily handle to job and well under $2,000. All of them cut in reverse and easy to operate.

Is zero turn necessary or a good lawn tractor will do the job?
Residential zero turn is good for an acre. If you need it for other uses such as pulling a trailer around, get a garden tractor.

That question depends on your personal preference

Replace the Honda motor with a much cheaper Predator. They are starting to build a very good reputation for longevity, and ya cant beat the price.

Do you have truck nuts on your truck? If so, a zero turn is mandatory, baw!

I weight in on this. After going thru two big lawn tractors and having a neighbor that had a zero turn. I ended up buying a zero turn. Had cut my grass cutting time in less then half. Much better looking grass after cutting too! Now I am cutting 5 acs+. To many trees to use my tractor.

I was given a Zero turn last year. I love it
I enjoy yard work, this makes it even more enjoyable.
Edging and weed eating my corner lot is now the longest task

they're not required but they're super fun and so much faster than a regular lawn tractor. i have a regular JD lawn tractor at my house and my inlaws have a JD ZTR. Since i don't usually cut both on the same day, i didn't really realize the speed difference. I have a sprayer for my lawn tractor so i brought it over to their house to spray for clovers and after riding on theirs then getting right on mine, it felt like i wasn't even moving compared to the ZTR.

Are you dense? Hopefully your trolling. Can't make it on the OT so you have to go to the H&G.

I have 0.75 acres and it takes about 3 hours to push that. I haven't done that in years btw

First couple years I push mowed my half acre and it took me 1.75 hours plus time to edge and weedeat.
Got a Troybilt lawn tractor and it cut my time down to about 45 min, but it did a shitty job cutting my lawn. The slightest bump would scalp the yard bad. Kept that about 5 years and sold it earlier this year.
Got a 42” gravely ZTX and it cuts the yard great in about 30 min. Fun to use also. I’d say spend the extra money and get a smaller ZTR with a welded, not stamped deck.
