Are Zero turns needed for residential mowing?

I burned my husqavarna walk behind? I have about acre lot.
I'm not sure of fixing the mower. Is zero turn necessary or a good lawn tractor will do the job?
Any advise would help

How much you weigh ? I'm fat and need the exercise . I have a walk behind mower .

I love my walk behind. I wish I didn't run it to the grave. I might have to replace the honda engine for about 300$. I might as well spend the extra and get riding one.

I’m on an acre and a walk behind would take hours to do my lawn. I’ve always been a fan of walk behind Snapper Hi-Vacs but there’s just no way I would do that for my new place. Especially in this heat.

A zero turn is not a necessity, but is fast and fun. It will not eliminate weed eating but will cut the time to a minimum. With a zero you're always cutting, not coming back for small patches that were skipped with a lawn tractor.

Snapper rear engine riding mower should work pretty well for that size.

Not for that push mower. It's got a 30" deck, electric start, and is strong as shite. If I had to push mow an acre, that's the one I would want.
That being said, I would get a zero turn for an acre.
< half acre - quality push mower
Half to 3/4 acre - rider
3/4 acre+ - zero turn
Never get a shitty push mower unless you just have an area of brush you need you plow through with something. Get something of quality. The cut will be better and your appreciate it more. I have an 800 series Husqvarna. It's nothing terribly expensive and it's far from the best out there, but the build quality is very solid and the cut quality is fantastic. It feels and sounds the same to me whether I am cutting 4 day growth or two week growth.
That being said, I would get a zero turn for an acre.

I only have a little over 1/4 acre. When I bought my house I only had a regular push mower. Front yard isn't bad at all, the previous owner sodded with centipede. The back yard though... The neighborhood was previously a cow pasture, and the back yard is basically still that, just more level. That was a hell to push mow, especially mid-summer. Then I inherited a self propelled mower from my grandfather. Much better than "me" power, but still quite a chore to get through the back yard. Then my dad got himself a ztr, and handed me down his older 46in rider. Finally it wasn't an intense workout to cut my little 1/4 acre. I'd never go back to walking. It still took just as long too cut with the rider because I found myself doing tons of laps to cut little amounts of grass neatly. This year I got a ztr for myself, so much better and more efficient. It's actually fun to cut the grass now.
To actually answer your question...needed? No. Better? I'd say, and I have a lot less grass than you.

1 1/4 +/- acre, 54 in cut Husqvarna ZTM w/26 hp Kohler engine. Takes < 1 hr to cut.

If you are mechanically inclined enough those Honda engines are very easy to rebuild. I hit a small hidden stump with mine and bent the crankshaft. $36 shipped for a new Honda crank and a few hours putting it in. New set of Honda blades and it cranked up on the first pull and has been running fine the whole season so far. Only tricky part is having a jaw-puller big enough for the flywheel and being very careful removing it from the crank. Very thin cast aluminum, I used some heat and plenty of Kroil.

I have 3/4 of an acre and I have a self propelled mower. Walk behind mowers just cut a yard better. My neighbors have riding and zero turns and I just feel they are to heavy and leave to much of a foot print.

Zero turn may not be necessary but I value my time and would much rather go faster than anything else. With my zero turn I can get cut, weedeat and blowing done in less than 45 mins if I keep up regularly.

I bought the smallest gravelly zero turn and got zero interest for 3 years. My note was like $70/month. Cutting grass is now enjoyable vs. a slog and takes less than half the time it did to push.

Its great exercise. I use a Ryobi electric on just over an acre. Bought an extra battery all in just over $300. If you're under 60 you don't need self propelled, especially in Louisiana.
